My 993 is totalled! Should I rebuild it myself or part it?

Still haven't heard an offer from insurance. A track car would be great, but all I've ever done in that area are a couple of DE events. All of your project ideas got me to thinking...wonder if LA Dismantlers has any widebody quarter panels and fenders. For perhaps not much extra I could make my own C2S!

If you take this on you will have your own minature junk yard where you live. Depends on how you want to spend your time.

After my one attempt at work even no where close to this level (restoring an old VW Thing), I found that I'm not cutout to do it. I just don't have the patience to see it sitting there and not be able to drive it.
As others have said, if you plan to keep it forever, rebuilding it is probably not a bad deal. But if you ever plan to sell, it will be difficult to sell and you won't get your money out of it. When I was looking for one, I saw a salvage titled one around for like $10k if I recall. From the pics, it looked decent, but the salvage title made it much less desireable.

I just bought back the salvage for $5800 which is awesome! State Farm also treated me very well regarding the value of the car...even with buying back the salvage, I still got a lot more than I paid for the car three months ago! I'm lucky I guess.
This friend I mentioned earlier rebuilt totals for me to resell back in grad school...paid my way! He does great work and he tells me it's a very easy fix. I've decided that parting it out myself is too time consuming and messy. I'm still debating whether to rebuild the car for myself or list the entire 993 on ebay. I figure it should fetch around $10K at least, no?
A salvage title is a hindrance to selling if I keep it, but this is a great excuse to keep my 993 forever, even when my new baby is born! Sorry honey, can't sell the car, not worth anything. The leftover funds would go a long way toward moving out of my condo into a house.
If any of you have a 993 pax side fender and/or door to sell, please let me know as I may need it.
Thanks for your help.

My guess would be at least 10K but closer to 15K. Now, that 10K plus what you got from State Farm should put you in the 2S area (not really but hey.....) Good luck and keep us posted.

Great buy back - using your previous numbers, appears that your friend can get you back on the road for <$14K total, including the buy back. For those $$, why be concerned about a salvage title? If you bought anything today for $14K, and drove it for, say, 3 years - what would it be worth then?
I'm guessing that the value would be a lot less that a 993 with a salvage title .... and still not be a Porsche

I really, really feel this is not an expensive repair,
heres what I would do-
1-You bring the car to a shop with a chassis puller, get chassis all in spec- 18-25 hours $1-2000
2- ( used) buy fender , buy door , buy quarter panel $1-1500
3- Buy nice (used) passenger side suspension $800
4- Get welding ( learn to weld whatever, its not that hard)
5- paint ( just paint passenger side) $5-800
At $5800 thats a awsome buy and the perfect 993 to just have total fun with.... perfect gt2 body base car also.
Good luck J
