I'm feeling pretty good about my report that came back today. Anyone see anything worrying that the Blackstone guys didn't?

And you run this car on the track? Amazing averages for iron/copper. I gotta try this oil next time.

I've just received my first sample kit from Blackstone. I know that the oil needs to be up to temp and circulating, but where do you pull your sample from?

Randy, I sample my oil when I am changing the oil. I just fill the bottle from what is drained from the car. If you want to sample without changing the oil, you can crack open the dry sump drain plug and catch enough oil from it to fill the sample bottle.

When you change your oil, just put the container into the stream coming out of the tank. You want it mid-drain if possible so wait a few seconds and then take the sample. Wear gloves...

I've taken a sample off my old C4S, without changing the oil. Just place a long tube all the way down the oil filler neck and pull some oil using some suction.

Shouldn't you take the sample BEFORE the oil goes through the filter. I would think oil taken from the engine case drain plug will give a better indication of contaminants in the oil.

Interesting point...only one way to verify.

I'm wanting to pull a sample without doing an oil change. I've only driven about 3-4k miles since my last oil change. I wanted to pull a sample to see...well just to see what it says. I wasn't sure of the best place to get a sample. I'll try and go out in the morning for a drive and get one.

Blackstone sells a neat little pump and hose, which is what I use to pull samples.
Cheers,
Jess

There are a couple of different ways. You can very carefully unscrew the engine drain plug - but not all the way out, of course. Just back it out and tilt it ever so slightly so you get a tiny stream to fill a sample jar.

The sample is also coming straight from the engine in this manner.
