Fault Code P1691?
Has anyone run into this fault code: "P1691"?
I was running the car for a while without the Temperature/Pressure gauge installed because I needed access to the back of the Tach to do some work. When I re-installed the gauge, the "Check Engine" light was on. Checking with an OBD II tool I bought from Sears, I got the fault code above.
I cleared the fault and it hasn't returned (yet). Could this be the dreaded "SAI plugged" fault? My car is a '97 993 Cab with 75K on the ODO.
Anyone with a similar experience? Any help greatly appreciated.

Code P1691 is "MIL (Check engine light) No signal / Control module fault EEPROM".
Since you ran the car without the gauge which also has the CEL light, the ODBII system detected no MIL(CEL) light and triggered the CEL.
So, basically you had a "Check Engine Light" for not having a "Check Engine Light"
This is the same code you'd get if your CEL light bulb is out or disconnected to hide a different CEL present.
Now that you cleared the code and re-installed the gauge you should be all good.
