Hi Shamrock.
It takes about 10 minutes to do and it's simple. I am no good at these repairs normally but this was a doddle.
That sound will come back too.

I'm going to attempt a fix asap .. Very busy in the house at the moment with a new arrival :sleeplessnightsrus:

Is there much to taking the blower fan assembly out in order to access this vacuum line?

So, assuming the sound of the solenoids is there when you switch the ignition on/off..is there anything else that can go wrong? I was wondering of therewas any adjustment on on how far the valves open...or is that purely down to the solenoid activater arms?..cheers

This link is for the mod to the VRAM vacuum distributor .

If you do this mod, I would also recommend the additional step shown in post #22 of that thread: it is the stress of a too short tube that deforms the 'Tee' piece, so eliminate the stress

The blower fan is easy to remove - there are two M6 bolts that slide in through the left side (10mm heads) - difficult to see, but as most things on a 993 - you get used to working by braille ....

Thanks Garth , that all makes good sense ...

Only slight problem being side arms are outlawed in Ireland , so I'll have to use a non-weapons grade coil!!

"Why don't you just ASK if it's working?"

Damn - mine's flat, too. Since I have no spare gun springs around, I'll just replace the part.

However, Pelican says two are needed per car, and their parts diagram indeed shows that replacement part (993 110 573 00) twice. Is the second one for something other than Varioram?

Just checked mine, the vacumn distributor does not appear pinched, did I understand they collapse internally too and that this is not visible from external inspection?

Also, how much movement of the actuator arms should you see when the ignition is turned on, mine moved but only abut 1/8 inch then back to the resting position.

I had a chance to do a search last night and I think the actuators should move 'thru 90 degrees' if that makes sense. I haven't had a chance to do any investigating myself yet .....

Ed , that answer from pelican is a bit of a head scratcher ..

Ed,

I also noticed in my PET that the drawing shows two the part twice, but in the text line to the right it says "(1)" which i think means that there is one in each car ?

Could it be that the drawing shows two layouts of the tubing like for ROW/USA or NA/Turbo ?

Best regards

90 degrees makes sense. Mission control, I think we have a problem.

Shamrock,

You don't need to remove the blower to access/remove/re-install the part. It would be worth just looking at/feeling yours to make sure is has become pinched - to save yourself unnecessary effort!

Thanks Steve that's some good news .. I was hoping I'd be able to see/braille the connection without having to remove the blower.
The weathers been so bad here that I haven't been able to open the engine lid since starting this thread!!
(My car is parked outside under a covercraft)

From memory I've spotted one of the vario actuators opening/closing when friends have started the car and I've been fan gazing.I can't remember seeing TWO actuators though , is the second one fairly visible?

Also will they actuate when the ignition is turned to the first position or does the engine have to be fired up?
