Default '98 3.6 Varioram Engine Questions

Hi All,
I am in negotiagions to purchse a 1998 3.6 Varioram engine complete. During conversation, the current owner stated it was a euro spec engine. Can anyone tell me how I could validate if it is or not Euro spec, and what would the Euro specs be?
Any additional information or experiences with the 3.6 Varioram engines would also be greatly appreciated as my knowledge on the last years of air cooled Porsche engines is somewhat limited!
Thanks
Rick B.

ROW and US engine numbers are different, per Streather...M64/21/22 for ROW and M64/23/24 for US.

Engine code is shown on the stick on the underside of the front deck hood.

Here's what mine looks like...engine code in the crease in the center.

As for specs, Streather's book cites ROW and US as identical...hmm, time to break out Frere's book...stay tuned.

If the engine is going in a street car, there may be issues related to smog checks since the euro engine may not be smoggable due to a myriad of mechanical and electrical reasons. Does it come with the complete wiring harness and computer, chip, etc? Just a thought.

'98 RoW 993 was the M64/21 for cars w/ manual trans M64/22 for cars w/ tip

As mentioned OBD1, the the dignostic port still looks the same as OBD2

Easiest external ID, beside the engine # by the fan, is the lack of SAI pump which is hidden in back under the MAF and air cleaner box
