A noisy fuel pump is usually the sign of a pump on its way out. You can use a fused jumper to bypass the relay to hear the pump run without the ebgine running. If you can find another accomodating 993 owner you can compare fuel pump sounds.

That's one way to look at it. Mine makes so much noise that you have to turn the radio up to listen over it. Otherwise all you hear is the HUM from the pump -no, you can't really hear the engine unless it's screaming. Mine is getting R&R'd soon...
