Transporting car... open or enclosed???
So I bought myself a new daily driver (non-porsche) and I have to ship it from Oklahoma City to Los Angeles. Since this thing is going to be my daily driver and not garaged at all, I'm wondering if I should spend the $500 extra to have it shipped enclosed. Is it worth it??? I figure I'm gonna get it detailed as soon as it arrives anyway.
Thoughts???

Is it brand new? You'd be amazed how beat up a car can get sitting on top (and in front) of an open air carrier.
Just my $0.02

Your car might get shuffled around more in an open carrier (they usually have more capacity). Probably not a big deal for a DD but you did say it was new and every time it's moved, there's a risk of something going wrong...

You'd probably be fine going open carrier, especialy for a DD and if your getting it detailed anyway. The only negative story I can share is a friend in the Chicago area had a car shipped up from Florida on an open truck. The whole trip was uneventful and the car was fine until the last 150 yards of the trip; he lives on a street lined with some nice big old trees, his car was up top and the truck driver didn't stay in the middle of the street. You get the picture, his roof received a couple bad tree scratches. Was a lengthy prcess but the truck company paid to have them buffed out.

btw: if it were me: enclosed only.

It's a 2002 BMW 540iT with 58K miles. A few door dings and small scratches already (not original paint either). Not pristine, but nice. I was going to have the car detailed and the dings pulled out when it arrives. The difference in price between open and enclosed would DEFINITELY cover that. If I go enclosed, then I'll have to wait on pulling out the dings and detail it myself. But mayb that's a good thing??? So confused...

Thanks Trinitony, its been a fun car. My wife loves being different in the sea of SUVs. I just wish like hell I liked the look of the new 5 series but I hate it.
