Default Cabrio Top - Main folding top bow

Has anyone ever welded or replaced the main folding top bow? I am wondering if that cracks or breaks, if it could be removed, welded, and re-installed.

I am also curious if converting the top to a manual top will reduce some of the pressure applied to that piece. If there is a write up somewhere of how to do that, I would love to see it.

it can be welded - our local upholstery guru redid the top on my previous car and he has a guy that welds them very nicely

guiness,
Who are you? do I know you? I know of a car just like that in Greenville....
Just fyi, it depends on the bow. Top ones should be OK, but the "B pillar" ones, just behind the window...no. I had that done. Lasted for 3 times up/down, then snapped again. Had to buy a whole new frame....ouch.

I had mine converted when the cable got messed up a few months ago. I believe a big risk to the bow is when the cable mechanism gets fouled up and puts pressure on the bow. My bow in my old 964 snapped under such a situation. Manual operation presumably eliminates that risk.
