Default Intake manifold boots

Just got a call from the shop. Apparently some earlier tech had taken the intake manifold off and in reinstalling it had mangled the little rubber boots. They said the whole manifold was misaligned. Go figure...

Also replacing a leaking crankshaft seal and timing chain cover seal.

All while the engine is out stuff while replacing the clutch.

Thats not uncommon,......

Higher mileage cars should get new rubber boots, plastic stub manifolds and new O-rings (under the manifolds) as these usually are cracked from excessive heat.

Its one of the keys to prevent stalling with the RS LWF setup.

Jon,
Are you replacing plug wires while everything is in plain view?

Oh! Good one. Wires aren't on the 60k invoice, so they may be original.

Anything else while it's on the floor? (short of valve guides *cough* *cough*)

The flywheel is fine they say, so I'm not going to do the RS clutch/lwf.

Will be doing the chain boxes both uppper and lower valve covers. 90k service which includes the plugs, wires etc.... also may hit the clutch button while it's in there. How much are they charging you for the clutch while the engine is out (labor hours)

Out the wazoo, I'm sure. Since my longtime mechanic left the area, I'm going to the local Porsche specialist shop. Now I get to pay retail markup on parts, too. But they have a great reputation, customer service, and free loaners...

All better now, except my wallet.

It feels like they put a Honda Civic clutch in there it's so light and direct feeling.

They checked the wires and ends and pronounced them fine, but did 12 new plugs and new caps and rotors.

The big unexpected expense was that both chain covers were leaking so they resealed them.

No leaks from the valve covers--perhaps a first in 911 history.

Power steering belt. Can't really be accessed since it's on the inboard side. And SAI check valve.

And upper valve cover gaskets. Just cuz.
