I will reply.. I have owned a 1983 944, a 1984 944Turbo, a 1985 911, a 1991 964 Turbo, a 1996 993 Twin Turbo and a 2001 996 Twin Turbo.. a couple weeks ago I bought a 1996 993 C4S.
Far and away the 993 TT was the sweetest, coolest ride I have ever owned and the most fun to drive. But damn they are expensive still today.
The 996 et al IMHO lack the "soul" of the previous generations.
The 964 Turbo was a badd *** looking ride (WIDE FENDERS and a mean whale tail) but that thing was like "twiddle your thumbs then hold on for dear life).. it was actually slower off the line than my 911 and my C4S..
the 944 Turbo was kewl at the time because styling wise they were way ahead of the game back in the mid 80's.. that was a neat car.
All things considered, the 993 was really the last of the classic P cars (hell this is the 993 board ) the 964 was a little bug eyed and had serious oversteer (I am sure someone will hammer me on this) and while I totally loved that car (it was Guards red with cashmere and I bought it with 6K miles onit) that 993TT rocked my world and when I stupidly sold it to buy a new 996 TT, I forever regretted that move.
the 996TT was a really pretty car (loads of wood and leather and niceties) but it was more a touring car (like a cross between a 928 and a 911) or a Lexus sportscar...
in my current lifestyle I wont justify spending the $60+K for a clean 993TT and when I got back in the market I wanted to spend $35-$45K and after a billion hours of research found a great 993C4S with my favorite colors and decent miles and needed upgrades (PSS9s etc) and I really like the "S" look..
to each his own.
Frankly all things considered the 993 is widely considered the best in the Porsche series
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Porsche_993
and you can find a lot of examples of this car in good condiition from high 20's all the way up to 60's for NA cars and on up for Turbos..
these cars have the engineering upgrades that make them more reliable than the 964s and the styling is closer to the 997 genre so they dont look dated.
these cars are simply beautiful.. there is an ongoing thread on this board (Who has the best 993 here etc) and if you want to get the fever page through the 60 some odd pages on that thread,,,
AWESOME..
also on Rennlist the 993 board is has the most action and the most postings...
HEY.. I love ALL the P Cars.. I have owned 7 of them but the 993 gets you the best of both worlds.. again IMHO..
NOW.. if you can afford a 993TT then JUMP ALL OVER IT DUDE!!!!
Cheers

I think only you can answer the question, but the only way you'll be truly happy is to buy one of each.
Otherwise you'll always be looking out the corner of your eye at the ones you didn't get and wonder.

If you are comparing a 993NA to a 964t, in stock form they are pretty similar in speed. But for a few $k, you can get 380-400hp that is reliable from the 964t (1bar spring, k-27 HF, headers, bypasses). The 964t is not nearly as good for a daily driver as the CIS system is far inferior to the motronic on the 993. But for a weekend/fun car, the 964t would be my choice.

Hey Banzai, you have to stop beating arround the bush. i have a hard time really getting what you are sugesting. So do you like and favor the 993.
How do you really feel?
I aggree with others. you must make your own choice.
The first time I drove my car I knew. That was the one for me. It's the small snug fit of the cockpit, the color of the ienterior, the sound of the motor, it was me all over.
So drive each one and see which you can afford.
However, buy the one you want. (you loose more money going through 4-5 cars you dnot really want to get to the one you do want)
