Default Headlight switch bulb picture...

With all the posts floating around about whether or not the headlight switch is illuminated, I thought I would share a picture of what it looks like on my early build '95 C4. Chalk it up as another diy I should have done long ago that took 15 seconds to complete...

Nice work, Jason. Now, please can we have a detailed, step-by-step write-up!?

Jason,
Can the bulb be sourced local or is a Sunset item?

I got my bulbs at NAPA today. There are a couple of different sizes in these small bulbs, but the wrong bulb simply won't fit. Something I have noticed is that the switch is now constantly lit when the key is in the ignition. It doesn't matter that the lights are off. Also, unlike every other light, it doesn't dim. Someone else mentioned about an translucent piece that's removable, I left that in as otherwise the light will be distracting as it's too bright.

I noticed that also Rich. Time will tell if it's annoying.

The bulb....such a small and inexpensive part...so much enjoyment.

Cabrio,

yes so much enjoyment from the little things that work and are quick fixes.

I lived with a 928S for the past four years where I hoped and prayed half the systems would work at any one point in time. If a light was out 99% of the time it was way more intensive than just changing the bulb.
I love the 993 I have just about everything works.

I don't have an issue with the **** not sitting correctly anymore. To change the bulb I just popped the cover off. BUT, what is annoying is that the lit icon is being reflected in the external dor mirror. Maybe this is another quirk.

Mine is out too. Do you have to pop the cover off as rusty mentioned as I've read similiar threads where the rubber gasket around the **** is the way to access the bulb... Thanks.

Derek,
just pull the whole **** (straight off). The bulb will just be sitting there exposed. Pull it out and re-insert the new bulb.

Good Luck Rich

I just removed my **** - it's on there pretty good. Sure enough, I found the little burned-out bulb just sitting there. It's the small things

How about this:

Step 1: Pull of headlight switch.

Step 2: Remove old bulb.

Step 3: Replace with new Sylvania 2721 (purchased at Kragen - 2 for $3.29).

Step 4: Replace switch. Line up notch and push it back on.

Should take less than 3 minutes.

FWIW, the headlight switch light is always on when the car is on. Probably why it burns out faster than the other switch lights.
