Way OT: Cropduster Photo
This photo was on the wall at McCall Motorsports at Monterey Airport. It is one of the most amazing aviation pictures I've ever seen. We've all seen some where the pilot was doing something unintended, with spectacular results, but this guy executed this maneuver every time he dusted this field. Using the height of the man standing next to the house as a guide, the plane's wheels are no more than eight feet off the ground, the clearance to the sagging wire is about a foot, and there is a semi truck approaching. The pilot also admitted he had a little Dutch courage on board!

The picture looks old but the Kenworth bearing down looks like a 1970s model...everything else in the picture looks like it is from the '30s.
Cool stuff!

That's what my father in law did for many years before he owned his own crop dusting company. I saw him flying and he was just nuts.
The reason they'll take those risks is because the crops sometimes go all the way to the edge of the road or right underneath cables. This is the only way that the can cover the whole field with pesticides.
His partner got killed in one of these maneuvers when they were about to retire and sell the company.

Around here, I see that not infrequently. Sometimes the truck hits the plane.

I have a friend who has been doing that with his 2 sons in Idaho for the last 30 years. Huevos of steel.

Those of you PP out there know when crossing an "active runway" always look both ways... Even tough were landing into the West we look to the east for the Crop Dusters... At Least that is what my instructor always told me... Then again, I'm in Jor-Ja
