Hello F1 Enthusiasts!
Anyone planning on going to the Canadian Grand Prix this year? I've been attempting to go the past few years, but this may be "the" year.
Looking for....
3-DAY PASS
Gold - $577
Silver - $458
Bronze - $275
GENERAL ADMISSION
3 Day - $131
Sun - $105
Sat. - $72
Fri. - $46
Gold 1-2:
This grandstand offers a good view of the grid/final straight and the pit lane.
Silver 11:
From this grandstand you will see the end of the straight from the pit lane, a left-hand corner, followed immediately by a hairpin, and the straight in front of the stand towards the chicane.
Silver 15:
The view from this stand is of the cars coming towards the hairpin, and crossing the Casino straight. Great racing action is guaranteed as the hairpin bend is considered one of the best points on the circuit for overtaking.
Silver 21:
This grandstand offers the same view as grandstand Silver 15.
Silver 24:
This grandstand offers an excellent view of the hairpin bend, considered one of the best points on the circuit for overtaking.
Bronze 31:
The view from this grandstand is of the cars coming from the straight in front of the stand towards the right corner, then towards the left corner.
Bronze 33:
The views from this grandstand are of the cars coming from the straight towards the grandstand, and Corners 6 and 7.
Bronze 34:
This grandstand offers an excellent view of the hairpin bend, considered one of the best points on the circuit for overtaking.
Thanks in advance and hope to see some of you there! Go Kimi!!

- Seating section recommendations?
Looking at Sec. "Bronze 33" or "Bronze 34" and maybe "Bronze 22". Good/Bad? - Hotel recommendations?
- Thinking of driving the 993 from NYC, but will take the public once there. Worth driving the Pcar?

You think? Wasn't sure if you can see much from that vantage point since it doesn't seem too technical there and the cars will be pretty much whizzing by. But this would be my first motor race of any kind so what do I know?

I've been sitting in Silver 11 for about 10 years or so ... it has the best seats in the house ... lot's of action there and the cars are slow enough to see the guys working in the cockpit ... great picture opportunities too.
Plus after the race it is a short walk to the paddock.

I am seriously considering going as well. I'll probably make the call by April or so. If I do go, I would love to make the drive up from NYC with you, but my choice of car will depend on the forecast for that weekend.
My company has a deal at the Omni, which used to be the 4 Seasons. The hotel is getting tired, so I am open for suggestions.

I have been going to the USGP for the last few years, but will most likely do the British or Brazilian GP this year. I guess the change of pace will be good. The USGP never received the support it deserved. There is something wrong when I find myself bragging about the food at the airports' international terminal in Atlanta. For a world class event, pretzel's and hot dogs are a little too American (Nascar) for my taste. May Tony George choke on an overcooked hot dog himself.....
However... the Porsche races that were taking place the weekend of the GP were great.......

Usually on race Sunday part of Cresent street is closed off to vehicle traffic, and is full of an assortment of PCA member Porsches! A nice sideline if you are downtown.

Section 31 is the best bronze section by far and sells out pretty quickly. Sections 15,21 & 24 (silver) at the hairpin are terrific as thats where most of the passing occurs and you get to fully experience the awesome braking, cornering and accelerative capacities of these machines. In terms of hotels, Le Germain and the Hotel Vogue are terrific. I'm most certainly going again this year it is an awesome time, Montreal is a fun place. It would be great to organize some sort of Rennlist drive in the hills/twisties of Northern Vermont (where I live) on Thursday then head up en masse on Friday.

This is always a good time. Just note that the walk over the river to the track puts you between 31 and the hairpin, the corners all the way over near the paddock are a bit of a hike. When/if it rains, the dirt turns to mud and you will look like Sasquatch afterwards. (may not matter) The hairpin seats facing the cars coming down the straight on the gas are excellent. The sound the cars make I would describe like an alien spaceship that decided to land near your head. Its amazing and unforgettable. I have been heading up for several years with FCA guys and some of us buy general admission passes so that we can walk to different spots and subject our hearing to the noises. Btw, if the MB CLK DTM car is the pace car, listen for the V8, it is impressive. Also, be sure to spend some time in Budweiser beer garden in the vendor section, the dancing Canadian co-eds are a sight you will remember for some time.
FYI, Hotel Du Fort is car friendly, in other words there is free secured underground parking with the rooms. Its also walking distance to the sites on the main strip. Be sure to check out the festivities on St. Catherine and St. Laurent in the evenings. The ladies of Montreal are worth the trip alone.
Hope this helps.

I'm told 24, 11 and 12 are the best seating for overtaking action according to a buddy that raced in IndyCar and GrandAm series there... I'll be sitting in 24... What are the events not-to-be-missed? Any thoughts?

pick up Jo Ramirez' book.

I can't put it down, on a par with Steve Matchett's books. I cannot WAIT until Nigel Stepney's book comes out. I got on the mailing list before his publisher pulled the plug on it !
I last went to Canada in '97, toured the Ferrari and McLaren garages (a friend knew Nigel Stepney, I was in DC's fan club). Eddie Irvine was an a$$hole, Frentzen was very cool, Panis was one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet (that's the race redflagged when he broke his leg), and DC is as great in person as you'd think he'd be. The only driver I REALLY wanted to meet (still my alltime favourite) was Mika, but he wasn't around. I will never be able to top that race , and Montreal USED to be great for general admission and wandering around for different vantage points, now it's all trackside signs, you can't see squat unless you buy the seat... I prefer the fan access of ALMS events now, although if F1 ever comes back to Indy or somewhere else in the US, I'll have to go.
