Porsche Parade/Charlotte..Where To Stay??
I want to book my room a while for the Parade in June and was wondering if anyone has any suggestions on where to stay? I remember reading about a big hotel in the city that was home base and since the Concourse will be on the city streets that sounds like the best bet.

Ok ... here's the scoop on Parade accomodations.
The anchor/host hotel is the Westin but reservations cannot be made until after Parade Registration is complete and individuals are officially ‘in’ the event. After everyone gets official notification that they will be an attendee then reservations can be made. We have a process for all of that.
The reason for this is that we have 56,000+ PCA members and a limited amount of entrants for the event. If we had a free for all on the rooms it would completely screw up the process for 'official' attendees.
We will be utilizing overflow hotels since we will probably have over 1,000 entrants. We have contracted room blocks with several hotels within walking distance of the Westin so we will have plenty o' rooms.
BTW - We are expecting to sell out the first day so make sure you register on Tuesday March 11th.

I'm new to all this so what am I registering for? Should I just get a room now or are you saying wait then go through PCA. Forgive my ignorance but I am a noob. Also I planned on arriving Sat. morning and leaving on Tuesday so is there anything good I am going to miss since the itinerary is not set yet?

In a nutshell it is the PCA Annual Convention. The best way to describe Parade is all things Porsche rolled up into one week.
There are four 'must do' competitive events: Concours, Autocross, TSD Rally and Tech/Historic Quiz.
There are several banquets/awards dinners. We will also have tours (Penske RS Spyder Shop, Hendrick Motorsports, Biltmore, Yadkin Valley Wineries, etc.). We have a two day post-Parade DE at Lowe's Motor Speedway.
The Porsche family (Peter Porsche, etc.) comes in as well as a lot of Porsche AG and PCNA folks.
A ton of national sponsors. Michelin, Bridgestone, Pirelli, Shell, Mobil1, etc will be present.
Our theme is the 60th anniversary of Porsche (1948-2008) btw.
We will have a Historic and Heritage display at the Chrlotte Convention Center with some very rare and unseen cars. We will have a lot of cars that did not go to Rennsport.
Overall ... a pretty exciting week.

i can't wait! I attended the 05 event in Hershey, PA which is only 30 minutes from me and I usually hit the Swap when it isn't raining! Finally I will be attending these events in my own Porsche since I am a new owner (July)! So should I wait on the room or book now? I don't want to miss out on a good spot.

Well ... the thing is that you can't book a room at the Westin until after registration ... and then only if you get in.
That being said there is nothing preventing you from booking at another hotel downtown.
