Guys, looking to get a value on my car. Need to for insurance purposes. MA is a pain with insurance on "collector" type cars. Have to do agreed upon value with "valuation" documented. Otherwise, not guaranteed to get replacement or car could easily be totaled in bad collision.
Car facts:
1997 C4S
Forest Green Metallic over Cashmer Interior
Full Power Seats Left & Right
Hi-Fi Sound Package
6 disk changer
moto-sound package
Supple Leather
Steering Wheel in Special Leather
Leather Instrument Carrier
Lightwood & Aluminum Brake/Shifter
aluminum door Sills
Porsche Crest in head rests
Chrome Oval Tips
I'm the second owner. Car has full service history and just turned 30k miles. No accidents, dings, stories, etc. Near perfect and one of the most beautiful 993s I've seen (maybe I'm biased)

What software did you use to remove the Willhoit rear plate holder in the pics? Good job. Can hardly tell it was there. I think the house is for sale as well. It is in Springfield Missouri. $2Mil for the house.
FYI, I used PhotoShop. If you look closely, you can see that I cut/copied a piece of the bumper to the left of the plate. You can see the same reflection. I have other pictures, but Mike's are the best. Especially the rear shot.
Bought the car a in September of '06. Basically want to figure out if value is stable, declined or increased.
You need to have a public document, they usually won't go by opinions on a web forum, no matter how accurate.
Do this once a year and present them to your insurance agent as an estimator of 'market value', and keep them for your records.
Just like trade in value (you use KBB, the dealers use Galves), your insurance company will go low, you'll go high.
Another option is to get standard coverage and 'self insure' by taking the difference between std and collector coverage premiums and putting it in the bank....similar to self insurance for DE.
That having been said, MA is SUPPOSED to be allowing new insurance carriers after this April, so you may have many many more options for carriers who specialize in such coverages.
I know of the upcoming change in April and hoping it allows Haggerty to play in our market. I use haggerty for my older stuff and they are great Pricing is so cheap it's amazing. Anyway, they said they have plans to come into MA with their collector car/specialty car policy (different from antique policy). I've got my fingers crossed.
Jason, MA is very difficult when it comes to insurance. We don't have "stated value" policy to the best of my knowledge and research. You can purchase a specialty policy based on an agreed valuation (but the valuation is key and where it comes from is even more key). Still working on it.
So for the time being, I am basically self insuring. Still curious as to value if it's sitll in the $58 to $60k range.
Guys
<snip>
I'm thinking $58 to $60k or am I off base?
beautiful car, but yes, IMO, you are off base.
at least 8- 10K off base.
this is coming from the perspective of someone who owns a 96 C4S with 20K miles that is very likely as nice as yours, although you do have $1 - $2K more in options over my car.
I would have NEVER paid $58 to $60K for mine or yours.
sorry, not trying to be a jerk, just offering a data point
Just from my observations, but the value/price of 993s seem to take a slight hit once the 30k mile mark is passed. BTW Willhoit's house is for sale for "only" $980k - the plans for $2560.
I looked long and hard, finally located a pristine 12K mi '97 C2S for $56,000. My guess on this car: $52,000, maybe $51,000 due to the higher miles.
BTW, of all the cars, including collector cars, I've had in the past, I've tended to overestimate the value of them, when it's time to sell. Human nature?.

Definitely DON'T use the Excellence valuations from this year. The consensus seems to be that the one guy (someone will mention his name) is smoking crack with his 993 pricing.

Perhaps, but it is regarded as a 'reference point' by some insurance people when discussing Porsches.
Again, this is more of a negotiation than a valuation process.
Thanks everyone. I ain't selling. Just want to make sure I can replace if the worst case happens (with little out of pocket). On the other hand, don't need to overinsure either.
Craig, no offense taken. That's why I was asking. Truth be told, I'm sure I overpaid. Mike is a good salesman (but he has nice cars too). Anyway, I'll be keeping the car for quite some time. Hell, I'm enjoying it so much I'm actually blogging about it at www.993C4S.com/wordpress My wife thinks I've gone off the deep end.
