These aren't hollow spoke wheels and I don't see if the seller ever says they are in the ad, unless the part number they used are for the hollow spokes. You can tell if you look at the seller's photographs of the back sides they have been machined in order to lighten them. The real hollow spoke wheels are solid all the way around the spokes and are tubular in section.
Nowhere in his auction does he claim to be selling hollows and the shipping charges can be miscalculated by the eBay calculator. He probably doesn't know any better. I bet if someone contacts him, he can clarify on the shipping charges. I bought a set of identical wheels/tires about a year and a half ago and shipping from FL to WA was ~$250 IIRC. For those interested, this set appears to be from a 996 with the narrower 7.5" fronts.
No affiliation, and I'm not defending the seller, this is just much ado about nothing.
hey, when I sold my boxster hardtop on ebay, I put in ultra excessive ship charges because I didn't want to deal with shipping either... and I clearly posted it in my auction that I didn't want to deal with shipping (thus the excessive ship charges if I DID have to deal with it).. and with a hardtop, it would have meant building a crate, trucking, etc. ...so I had listed $600 freight within the 48 if shipping was required... but in my case, A guy from Minneapolis DROVE to chicago to pick up in person so all was good
I agree... there is no reason to call this guy a scammer based on this ad. He clearly listed the porsche part number and clearly displays a picture of the backs of the wheels. He has misrepresented nothing. Actuallly, he has done more than most by posting the part number and showing the back of the wheel. I also don't criticize the shipping costs. I sold a set of wheels for my touareg last year and listed an exhorbitant shipping cost because I didn't want to deal with it.

My mistake on the hollow spoke. I always get confused because it's a little counter-intuitive when you look at the back of the wheels. What do you bet someone bids without checking the shipping though? Why not just put "local pickup only, or arrange your own shipping"? I don't see the reason to put an exorbitant shipping charge that will automatically add into the price when you go to checkout....When you buy those wheels, you're going to pay $421 more than you bid.
I asked him about it and here is his response:
" i work at a dealership, and to ship these wheels, it would cost around $100 each depending of where they are going. i know it is really expensive."

I paid about $150 to ship a complete set of Cup II's (including tires) from TX to NY a few months ago.

Actually the non hollow spoked technology look wheels look exactly like this, they were not machined. I think his starting bid is all they are worth. I sold a set of these in 8 and 10 widths after a year of trying to sell them for $400 and the hollow spokes I couldn't get more than $800 for.
