Default Suspension Question

For those of you who have done your suspension, does your 993 feel more "planted" than it did with the original set up?

There are lots of things I prefer about the 993 to the newer 911's (which is why I have one), but one thing I really liked in a couple 997's I drove recently is the more planted, and less "floaty" feeling. I am wondering if swaping out the original suspension for something else will help in this regard.

Stock 993 boingers suck. New ones will transform your car. When I installed my PSS-9's, they made a huge difference over the Monroe POS's. Lots of threads in the archives on this subject.

BTW, my 997 with the adjustable sport suspension (PASM) was nowhere near as planted as my 993 with Motons. The 997 suspension on the sport setting could not keep up with the road when really hammering (110+ mph) and felt very nervous.

+1 for Mark. I have the M030 with HD Bilstiens and it is night and day in comparison to the original. Go for it!

How would you guys describe the "transformation"? Is it a more planted feeling? Tighter is curves, or what?
Thanks for the info!

993 on original shocks = Buick.

993 on original shocks on track in a high speed turn with a bump = Whoa...what the heck was that...think I'll pit now.

Definitely more planted, or connected to the road. Eliminated "float". Taut, precise, flat, carving turns. A different car is an understatement. Combine the new suspension with a smaller, thicker steering wheel and you will not believe the experience. Don't wait, do it now, you will love it.

I recently modded and de-modded my E46 M3 and am moving back to a 911 (owned a 911SC and a 996). On my M3 I had KWv2 and loved them. What's a good progressive spring for the 993 and which steering wheel are you referring to that works with the airbag? Thanks in advance. I'm making my list.

Bilstein HD with M030s, PSS9, or JICs are all good choices - in order of increasing cost and adjustment (JIC comps come with camber plates).

Atiwe/Raid steering wheels come with an integrated airbag. Usual choice is the 340mm diameter.

I just did another DE weekend on the track with my PSS9. Like other rennlisters said here before: It will transform your car! It is "planted" and very responsive to all your steering and throttle inputs. I had an experienced instructor and when he took it out for a couple of laps he was very impressed with my setup.

Bottom line: A suspension upgrade is the best mod you can do to your car and you will regret every day waiting.

Regards,
Erik

Talk to Jerry at EPE. I went with the HD Bilsteins and ROW M030 springs and sways. Jerry set my height, my alignment and corner balance. My height is set at ROW Sport which lowered the car about one inch.

I ended up with a comfortable ride that handles New England roads and plays well on the track.
I also run two sets of wheels. 17" Cups with rain tires and 18" Technologys with R-Compounds.
