Wheel weights...what's going on?

An honest question:
What are the advantages of fiske or Kinesis wheels besides the asthetics over stock wheels?
What of deep dish 3-piece wheels with the bolts?
I have a 993TT with hollow spoke turbo twist wheels.
Beyond bling, is there a reason for me to upgrade aftermarket wheels? (assume both new and old are still 18 in)?

The 996 turbo hollow spoke wheels are a very nice upgrade (for wb cars)because they are 11" in the rear. Then you can go 295 to 315 width.

The hollow 993 turbo twists are on the light end of the weight sprctrum
993.362.136.00 - ET52 - 19.95 lb (front)
993.362.140.01 - ET65 - 23.36 lb (narrow body rear)
993.362.140.00 - ET40 - 25.13 lb (wide body rear)
Good wheels, I like the fan effect wrt brakes, too bad they aren't chiral(L/R)

The minimum hydroplaning speed of a tire is 8.6 times the square root of the tire pressure (psi). Lots of other things can affect the actual hydroplaning speed such as contact patch size, tread design, tread depth, surface porosity, etc.
Wheel height and/or width has nothing to do with it. FWIW, I realize that you probably assumed wider tires and hence a larger contact patch naturally come with wider wheels, but just thought I would point out the actual factors.

But all this is a waste of time really, since, as pointed out by Rally Jon, there are no proper tires available for a 17 in by 10 rear wheel (this would have been for a narrow body 993). RallyJon posted "Finding rear tires would also be a problem. There was just a thread about this a couple of weeks ago. Only option is 275/40 which is too tall, and our cars sure don't need longer gearing! The 265-285/35 sizes that would be ideal aren't made by anyone. "

As much as I understand the whole car-**** aspect of Mg wheels, why on earth would anyone pay $10-15k for those when a set of Volks are pretty damn nice and very close in weight? Maybe I need more disposable income to get it....

Three Wheelin'
993 Pilot, I bow to your vastly superior tire engineering knowledge. . What I meant (I think) was, all things being equal (Tire diameter, brand, model, compound, tread design, ect) and optimum tire size for a given width wheel (which I realize is debatable), I was guessing that a wider tire contact patch (an optimum wider tire on a wider wheel) would be more prone to hydroplaning on the same road surface with say 1/2 inch of water on top of it (heavy rain), than a narrower width contact patch (optimum width on a narrower wheel).

Actually, yes. DB Class of '90 . It's scary the stupid things you remember some times!

[QUOTE=993_Pilot;4836398]I figured thats what you were thinking, but the hyrdroplaning talk made me recall some obscure facts from my college days, which is a miracle in itself, because I often can't recall what I had for dinner last night! I didn't mean to come off as a know-it-all.
993Pilot, No offense taken ! Tires / handling are complicated subjects and I'm not an engineer type. Thats why I asked the list, to get feedback !

I would think because back then, our wheel choices werent what they are today. Special Wishes thrived on people with disposable income

Why do you drive a 993 when you could drive a Miata? Simple answer, bacause you can .
