Can I offer: Probably better to pull the grommet from the sheet metal hole and 'slit' the grommet from the outside edge to the inside hole part. Put your wires in and then reseat the grommet.

Thanks Randy,

It's unnecessary to cut the rubber grommet. Just warm it up with a hair dryer and use a couple of smooth chopsticks to carefully stretch open the hole. Pull the chopstick out as you insert the plug ends and the ballast plugs will just fit through. No need to cut or even remove the rubber grommet. Your ballasts will be dry and look like a factory install.

I got the ones from Hong Kong. Components look very high quality, kit was very easy to install (hey I did it myself with visual aids from Patrick and RL thread), and everything fit in the headlight module. I spent almost as much time stuffing everything back in when I was finished as I did installing everything. The lights haven't been installed long enough for me to assess true quality/reliability yet. The German kits does have a longer warranty, but the new Hong Kong kit states manufacturer is "Germany Imported" - maybe the ballasts?

I suspect the same ballast is used for all the different bulbs since it appears to have a wide operating range. I can shed a little more light since I have ordered a kit for my son's Supra for Xmas that uses 900x bulbs instead of H1s.

Dan was nice enough to show several of us his install at the Porsche Palooza. So, it's kinda 'his fault' that I'm now going with the smaller ballasts. .

Chuck...I just removed the groumet, cut it and fed the wires with the clip attached through it and the hole and then reinstalled the groumet. I can't remember any big deal about doing it...it was tight but fit.

WAIT, Chuck! Don't blame me. It was Patrick who showed us his installation and sent us the link to the vendor.

The advantage of having everything in the headlight assembly for me is the ease of working on it later, if needed. You can take the whole module out and change bulbs or replace whatever at the kitchen table.

Chuck - I have 5000K on one car and 4300K on another- I prefer 4300K as its white with no blue shift. It is evident in the 5000K. YMMV.

Sorry Dan. I meant Patrick.
Patrick-forgive my lapse.
To confuse things even more, the guy who is getting the vertex ballasts from me-his name is Dan Patrick.

David-Thanks. That's one reason I posted originally-I want to use my 4300k bulbs with the new ballasts.

Exactly. The "photo" on this site showing the 4300 as yellowish is very misleading. Looks nothing like that.
or the German kit for $210 http://www.dxhid.com/buydigitalhidgb.htm?

Hey guys, thanks for all the great info in this thread. I'm getting ready to order the kit from Hong Kong on Ebay at http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...190118773924or

He says to :
PLEASE INCLUDE THE TYPE OF BULBS, COLOR TEMPERATURE, TYPE OF WIRE HARNESS(PLUG AND PLAY OR FUSE/RELAY)

I'm guessing I tell him HID bulb, 4300k color temp, and plug and play. Is that correct?

Thanks!

H1 bulb, whatever color temp you want, and the harness doesn't matter since you don't use any of it.

3 weeks ago I sent in the notes section of PayPal (H1, 4300K, Plug and play). I received and installed in 30 minutes.
Great mod. Now I can see!

Default Great deal on a digital HID kit...

Insane discount - No affiliation etc etc but I just bought a digital HID set from this site for $149 shipped. 3 year warranty on digital ballast and 15 months on the bulbs. This deal ends on 1 Dec according to Dave. If you want some HIDs this may be the deal of the week. Here is the link http://www.dxhid.com/ Happy shopping.
