It's kinda apple and oranges with these two cars. They are different animals completely. They are both beautiful designs that I think will stand the test of time, though they look completely different. They feel different, but the seating position, steering, pedal feel isn't all that different. They both feel pretty nimble. I was surprised at that with the Z8, I thought it would feel heavier, though the weights are roughly the same. The powerplant feels completely different. This should not come as a surprise to anyone. It's a V8 with a lot of torque. Not silly torque like a Viper, but it didn't feel too far off. There is power at a very wide range on the tach whereas the 993 really needs to rev to hit the sweet part of the power band. I liked that. Obviously, the Z8 is a roadster, so that feels totally different to my coupe. These are my initial impressions from my limited seat time in the Z8.

I haven't taken delivery yet on it, but you can view photos on the Z8 board.

My car is in the for sale section of the forum. The thread title is "2002 Z8 (#61487) 12k Miles - Sold"

Tim,
I also posted on the Z8 board regarding your purchase. To compare, the 993 feels like a frisky colt and the Z8 feels like a thoroughbreed. Both great cars to drive, but the Z8 will more than replace the fun of the Alfa and 993.

Thanks Chris. I hope so. I wish I had more room, and more time. I would keep the 993. It's such a great car. I'm trying to find her a good home.

Wow, if memory serves wasn't there a post with lots of pics when that car was delivered to the prior owner in Michigan...IIRC he had a second 993, also a white but (GP white). I saw those posts...the truck pulling up, offloading the car, etc... when I bought my car (unfortunately ages ago). Good luck with the sale....man I wish I was back in the market now instead of down the road.

Great memory. Yes, Will is the guy I bought this car from. He liked the car, but decided he wanted a track car shortly after, so he sold the car to me.

C'est moi. Kevin, you do have an amazing memory.

I was sad to see Tim's car go; it was 993 perfection to me. However, the arrival of my '95 993 was a great day. It's been a perfect car for both street and track. Alas, I may be selling the 993 and a ton of goodies, my Trailex trailer, and my Sequoia... It looks like I'll be moving to downtown Chicago and considerably downsizing/simplifying my life. Any Midwesterners want to step into a DE setup with everything one could possibly need? Well, nearly everything... there's always some modification one could do.

I have a thing for white 993s...mine was a GP white '96 narrowbody, so I remembered many of the other white cars on the board. I'm going to get back into the 993 fold in the next 12-18 months...will be fun to be on the hunt again. I've only visited Rennlist a handful of times in the last couple of years, but I keep paying my membership so I'm ready to get back in action.

Congrats on the sale! That Z8 sure is a nice car. But I bet you will have a touch of 993 sellers remorse when she leaves the garage. I get it every time I see one pass me which thankfully isn't much this time of year in OH. Sorry, I digress. Enjoy that new BMW and maybe share some more on driving comparisons as you've had some seat time. I know they are apples and oranges but car guys love all cool sports cars. Have fun.

I'm baffled that it took so long. Such a nice car. Congrats on the new purchase.
