The guy is kinda sort right.
There is the whole "socialist" thing that says to show success, ability, and wealth is arrogant and anti-social. The only people who are "allowed" to show wealth are the remnants of the old gentry, who often still hold the old titles and the wealth that goes with that, and "promis" (prominent people) from sports, show business or fashion. Anyone else is either stealing it (from the "common man" of course) or getting it through exploitation of some kind. Hence the "pimp" comment.
Granted, my comment here is a bit of a generalization, but the underlying truth of it is there. Market socialism says everybody should be in a narrow band of wealth, and no one person should have "too much."
Very few of the Porsche owners I have met here are "ordinary" folks like you find in PCA or here on Rennlist. They all have been pretty wealthy, and even so, the cars stay mostly hidden except for club events. The Doctors and CEO types can get away with a P-Car as a daily driver, but the others not so much. One guy runs a painting company, doing mostly "major" projects and high-volume house painting, and and he never lets any clients or employees see him in the P-Car. Other people who are also business owners (Not really CEO types, just people who busted *** to build everyday businesses like plumbing, roofing, construction, etc.) are the same....they keep it all very low profile.
There IS wealth here in Germany, but it stays very low-key.

Have to agree with e9stibi. Vettes and stangs are the real pimp cars in Germany, followed by Benz roadsters so the bleach blonde hair of the Ho's can blow around. Porsche is not so much pimp as not GREEN. If you live in Muncih every car is a BMW. In stutgardt it is MBZ. In NOr D. it is VW and AUdi. Porsche's are kind of rare cause they are so impractical and with the price of insurance they are seen as just a way to show off especially when you consider what the ungoverned audis, Benz and Bimmers can do on the 'Bahn. I was born there and lived there twice, and I never had anyone say pimp car. NOw Jag---that is a pimp car over there.

Just to clarify a few things, to drive a Porsche in Germany is a lot different than driving a Porsche in the states. Any average man here, if they save up, can eventually buy a Porsche. However German salaries are NOT comparable to American salaries. Engineers who work for the best companies in Germany (something like a Porsche, BMW, Siemens engineer) only make about 40K euros a year. Hell even lawyers sometimes make only 50K. An engineer with a PhD will make 65K and that is a "very good" income. That being said my research partner here at the university worked for Porsche in Weissach for a year before he came here....apparently every Porsche employee at the factory drives a Porsche....how bout THAT for company perks. They give steep discounts for their employees and I mean STEEP. If you make it to a senior position they give you a company car for free, and every 20000 kilometers you trade it in and they give you the newer model free. I can't wait to apply after grad school.

Pimps and ho's are people, too. They just happen to be unfortunate having to be in that business. They serve clients and get paid for their service. Very fair. Much more decent than thief and robber. Therefore, we should blame the society, not pimps and ho's.
Not meaning to offend any female rennlister here. But, in our part of the world, after wining and dining a very important foreign Customer, we would normally take him to a night club and have the mama-san bring in 5 or 6 beautiful ladies to the VIP box to entertain him.... That is one of the reasons why we get to keep our foreign Customers in our clientele for so many years. And that surely has helped our nation's economy a lot. Since mama-sans and ladies are also part of our nation's workforce, they should also have some of the credit.
In fact, some Customers told me they liked the ladies more than me. Period.
