The Porsche unit is nice. Plugs into the cig lighter and a 25' cord that is easily thin enough to close the door on. ~$50.

I have had excellent service from the same unit. You can leave it plug in all winter if you want.

Battery Charger
I recently purchased this model charger on Ebay and am quite happy with it. For an additional $10, you can add the cigarette lighter adapter and charge the battery from there. I drive into the garage and plug in. Has a special setting for Optima batteries too. Here is the link (no affiliation whatsoever):

This has been discussed maybe twice recently, but I do like my Porsche Charge-o-mat. Should be at Sunset for around $50.

This might be a stupid question, but what's a battery tender?

Not scary to close the door on the wire?

It keeps your battery from dying from lack of use. I won't be racking up the miles in the northeast winter (if it ever comes)

Oh, I really have to get one of those. My car's been in the garage for about a month without being used, and won't start. Forgot to disconnect the battery

Not at all. It's about a 20 or 22 gauge twin lead. Not even a kink or compression mark on the wire, nor is there any sort of indication on the door seals or sill.

I do the same... the wire is really thin... the 25' cord is great.
