Default Handling question

Background: My car doesn't have a LSD according to the option codes. I've noticed a few times that I get oversteer big-time even with warm tires (Bridgestone RE750s) and when I'm on the throttle hard exiting a turn. The car sits at RS height with PSS9s at middle stiffness settings, M030 bars, and alignment is set with very level camber in an effort to maintain a decent tire life.
Question: Would a LSD make much of a difference? Seems like the loss of traction in the rear is awfully sudden. I'd hate for this to cause me to swap ends and wind up headed into a tree or worse. I don't tend to push the car very hard that often and this occasional sudden loss of traction is a bit unnerving to say the least.

How do you know if you have an lsd on your car? Without actually driving it can you look it up to be sure? I'm pretty sure mine does.

I believe that there is an option code that indicates if you have it. You may want to research if your particular model year came with it as standard or not. Actually I'm not sure if my '96 came with LSD as standard or not. The code for the LSD option wasn't on my sticker so I'm assuming I don't have a LSD.

cool looking driveway btw!

I'm pretty sure it was optional at the time, but I guess there's more experienced people on the forum that know for sure. Mine's a 1995. And what sticker are you reffering to? I just assume I have an lsd because the rear end comes out pretty smoothly and its not too hard to keep it out... I'm really into drifting:P

option code was M220. lsd & abd.

Look at the ABS pump if there are 2 lines going to the back you have M220

Now you know better than that! 993s are not for drifting. Check the user agreement for RL - no drifting allowed and you can't be a NASCAR fan

J/k

Look for a sticker under the bonnet or possibly with your manuals that has a bunch of letter and numerical codes. There's a section here on RL, I believe its under "Support" or "General" that provides an option decoder.

I think you have other handling issues. Not having LSD will not automatically give you crazy oversteer, trust me. Nor will adding an LSD cure an oversteer problem, although it will add some understeer depending on the lockup.

Bill,
whats ABD?
You are, of course, assuming I know what an ABS pump looks like and where to find it!
(seriously, I really don't know!)

Could also be user error

If I roll on the power too much at a slow speed going through a corner I suppose that could be enough for it to step out like it does. It could just be crappy tires that don't have enough grip, road surface etc.

Have you had the alignment checked recently by someone who knows 993s? I have had RE-730s, and i could get them to break loose, but it was provoked and controlled. I'd check the alignment.

HAHA! I'm deffinitely not into nascar! It's the most pointless thing I've ever seen! As for the drifting, I started doing it as soon as i learnt to drive, it was just a natural for me, like a step beyond driving fast. I only found out what it was about 2 years ago, and have been doing it for about 5. It's not like what you see in movies, just something that helps me learn the limits of the car and how to control it. Don't want people thinking I'm a ricer:P
And I honestly have no idea where the ABS pump is either haha.

The car was properly aligned by someone at the porsche dealership including KT, but as I wrote earlier I have virtually flat camber in the rear.

The few times this happened I let off the throttle and the car was totally controllable, but it just caught me by surprise when it let go.

Could just be the tires and a heavy foot. I have S-02As on now, and they have much more grip than the 720s, with less tread life as well. Tradeoffs everywhere, right?

Maybe instead of flooring the pedal when you come out of the turn you could try put it down more smoothly so the push isn't so sudden? Even if the car comes out it'll be much more controlled and smooth.

Ok so I think I can rule out not having a LSD. Its simply too much power too quickly while turning in too sharply with zero camber with not so sticky tires on loose road surface. As I said before "user error". All I have to do is avoid all the above and it'll stick like glue! Think I got it now.
