Hi Folks,
I have a line on a set of Speedline wheels. Three-piece aluminum, forged center, Porsche center crests, chrome finish. Five-spoke with rivets. They say Speedline, but not Speedline for Porsche.
I have not done much research on Speedline SAC wheels, only know that their claim to fame is the OEM wheels for the RS. Do they make good wheels?
Thanks for the education, as always. BTW, these are for my Cayman, not my Ruf. I love my Ruf modular wheels. I have a pic of the Ruf wheels for comparison.

Pong,
A few points if I may?
Speedline wheels are VERY good wheels. Most (All??) are forged centres - jut like our beloved Fuchs - and are extremely strong.
They are HIGHLY regarded and sought after both as a brand in there own right or OEM. Speedline also made (not sure if they still do) for example a lot of earlier Porsche stuff and also are responsible for the Champion motor sport line of wheels.
I a have a set of (NOW redundant due to my brake upgrade) Champion labelled Speedline 3 piece modular wheels and the quality is superb. Too bad they don't fit over my new brakes........![banghead](https://rennlist.com/forums/graemlins/banghead.gif)

Saying all of the above - not sure that the one above are any good due to the chroming? I remember that PCNA advised against it - making or weakening the material?? Really depends if it was OEM or not?
Anyone want some 19's to suit 993/996 wide body in Australia?![banghead](https://rennlist.com/forums/graemlins/banghead.gif)

hope this helps,
Simon.

Hey Pong -
I really like the Speedlines ... like Simon ... not too sure about the chroming ... but that's just a taste/preference thing ... might look ace on the dark gray Cayman ... don't be too affected by other peeps opinions. Any chance you can you "de-chrome" wheels?

I'm looking for a set of Speedlines (true or replicas) with WB offsets if anyone has a set. If you have a set, PM me.

Folks,
Thanks for the input thus far. Those look different than most Speedlines that I have seen: the rivet pattern stops where the spokes are. All others that I have seen have rivets over the entire circumference of the wheel.
I'm not particularly fond of the chrome either, but that's how they come, so not much choice. The ad says chrome, so I assume it is chrome and not high-polish alum. I did have a 1981 380SLC graphite exterior (similar to the Cayman's meteor gray) with chrome wheels and it looked stunning. I am willing to give this a try on the Cayman.
I particularly liked this set as it is actually 17" set. I like the deep dish look, but like to stay 17" (for running comfort and tire economy). I can get a set of excellent tires (from Tirerack) for these wheels for $422 shipped (I know I know, Porsche and cheap don'tgo together
). I have looked for a while, and most deep-dish sets come with the wrong off-sets. This one fits as is so I jumped. Hope it works. I'll post pics when it's on the car.

Do they even come with widebody offsets? I thought people just installed spacers to use on a WB (rear only; fronts are fine). I know Performance Products has a 15mm spacer with studs for $120.

Think GT2. I've also seen the true Speedlines for Porsche on a C4S and the stagger was wider than on the NB version.

How bizarre. I ran into a set of these (17") just yesterday as well and was wondering what they fit and what they might be worth.
The fronts are 7.5" and 40 offset. Rears are 9.0" and 39 offset:

With the non-continuous rivets, the wheels have more of a Targa wheel look than RS wheel. Anyway, the wheels look great, Pong. Congrats.

but
first you need to electroplate a base material such as copper over the AL for the nickel to adhere to
layers as follows;
AL > Cu > Nickel > Chromium.
The nickel is what is polished to a high luster.
Chromium is a very thin protective layer.
be safe

I agree you can chrome just about anything including aluminum. Although the wheels pictured are polished and not chromed. You can tell by the color and finish.
AFAIK most speedlines are cast not forged. They also make wheels for other manufacturers such as for the corvette and Ferrari. They make a very nice cast wheel for Ruf and their original wheel which we recognize for Porsche is the wheel commonly known as the turbo 3.6 wheel which was actually first used in 1992 on the 964 cup, 968GT and 1992 964 ROW turbo S.
High quality great look bit some may argue they are heavy. The heaviness comes from the spun lip and cast barrel. There was a magnesium centered version of the 993cup wheel which weighed less but still not supper light by todays standards.
The weight of the 10 x 18 3.6T wheel is 12.16 kg as where the 10 x 18 993 RS version weighs in at 13.5 kg. Not light but very solid wheel.
BTW they look great.
