A red letter day, a big moment in my life, a rite of passage...
Let the snickering begin: I finally, finally learned how to drive a stick shift today.
This was better than getting laid for the first time.
Well, almost.

Congrats! I learned when I was 16 years old on a Chevy station wagon ... 3-speed on the floor ... with a truck clutch! That training has served me well... I went to buy my 993 and the guy actually said to me "Do you know how to drive a stick?" ... I dropped my offer $2,000 when he said that...

What the hell took you so long.... I know you're in GA, and I'm glad you didn't lean on my car..
Congrats It's really driving when you control the shifts, but is sucks in the traffic here....

Did you learn to drive the stick or get laid first, or both? Masturbation usually precedes getting laid, but maybe not ? Stick shifting is a complicated matter.
Congrats

Ed, Congratulations. I know the feeling. My family always had autos and was sharing a car for a number of years with my sister who was also an auto driver. I got too familiar with them over many years to change until last year when I decided to go minimal with a 993. It did not make much sense doing that with a 993 Targa Tip, so I started with a hire car on a holiday and have enjoyed myself silly since with a Subaru WRX. I only had a week with my 993 earlier this year. My poor Baby is still in the shop and with a miracle I might get her for Christmas. That week was a blast. Driving is so much more involving with a stick. Better late for us both than never.

Yeah, I've been kind of yearning for a 3.2 lately, so I had to learn.
Growing up, we always had automatics, and neither of my parents were inclined to go out of their way to teach me, hence the rather late start.
I'm thinking I need a cheap beater to really get it down before I torture a 911 with my mistakes. Although I must say, it was easier than I thought it would be. Starting on an uphill was a bit of a trick.
