OT My college dream car
#66
Beautiful car. Had one many years ago. Alpine white with tan interior. I had to drive 400 miles to get it. Everyone who saw it on the way home loved it. Even guys in pickup trucks in the middle of Missouri gave me the thumbs up. When I got home, washed the car, and showed it to my fg. The first words out of her mouth floored me.
It was, "It looks like a MARSHMALLOW!"

Nice job. One of the advantages of getting older is being able to afford the things we couldn't have when young. Becoming of age in the '60s my dream car is a 1969 Camero. I'll even pull out the platform shoes to drive it.

Ah, nice to recreate our youth by restoring a car to your college-dream state.
I'm older, I guess, as my college dream car was a BMW 2002; by working hard I was able to graduate early and spent the savings on a 1972 2002 (non-Tii; which was - gulp - an extra $500 over the $3900 the 'base' car cost).
The '72 was totaled with me in it when some doped up 16-year old ran into me while I was stopped in traffic. Mine had all of 8k miles on it. Insurance recovery plus some backaches got me enough to buy a 1973 replacement.
Man, those were the days; the BMW was $3900 and 4 years at Bates was under $20k.
Thanks for the chance to reminisce.

Very nice Alvin. One of the great BMW's. I've had the opportunity to drive several of these cars and it is such a great package. The handling is amazing. The tasteful flaring of the fenders. The motor is a hoot. When it hits the hot spot on the cams about 4500 rpm as I recall.....what a blast. If I were doing a project, this would be my choice. After that, I'd do a tii.
I bought an E36 M3 and it just didn't have the 'street racer' feel of the E30. I was so disappointed.....
You have fine taste in autos.

Remember when they first came out? As 911's were going the other way toward bloated comfort in the 964 redesign. Funny how we now call those cars crude! Have yet to meet one of the E30 M3 guys I hang around with who does NOT regret selling.
You guys will all know I hit it beyond big when my college dream car shows up--935K3. Was such a thrill to be able to crawl all around and inside the Garretson car when it was at their shop, and they'd host tech sessions. 1980 state of the art!
