I should have snapped a picture of that one I saw today... I'm no BMW fan but it was pretty slick. The '88 is pretty cool... always loved the fenders!

It certainly doesn’t have the power or (especially)the torque of my 993, but once you get that 4 banger wound up and hit the back roads, it’s amazing. The 993 is tight and secure where as the M3 is tossed into the corners and loves it. I get the same laugh when I drive it on the twisties as I do on a good fast roller coaster.
Trivia:
The E30 M3 really is totally different than a standard E30. It was built to meet homologation rules for the Group A racing. The hood is the only shared body panel with other models. The front and back windows are bonded to the frame to add structural support and stiffness.
The high revving (for back in the late 80’S) S-14 engine was a variation of their M10 block (which was used in their F1 cars) with a M88/S38 DOHC cylinder head (minus two cylinders). Quick way to get a lighter racing engine developed. It was the only M car produced with a 4 cylinder engine. Stock rev limit was 7300 but an aftermarket chip normally would get it up to 7800. Its transmission was different than the other e30’s as well as its suspension. Has a 4.10 rear end.
There was a “$15,000 rule” on these cars for quite a while. Meaning, you could get a clean one for that amount, or spend less and put the difference into it to getting it clean. I think this might have changed lately due to several articles that seem to elevate it to “future collector car” status. Automobile Magazine had it in their greatest 25 cars of all time and EVO magazine claimed it as the best M car ever produced (in European EVO trim). It has the most wins of any car BMW ever fielded in competition. Very low mileage ones can go for $25K - $40k. There were only 5000 imported to the US between 1987 and 1991. No telling how many are left.

Alvin,
I should have known you'd have a fist full of alternate wheels for the car. My first impression when I saw the pics was 'beautiful car, but those wheels... hmm'.
Nicely done as usual!
