Um, dont quite know how to tell the wife.
Fitted another new set of Conti C2S today...after only 10 months and 2224km , or 1381 miles, from new last December. ( I dont drive it very much,but when I do...)
Rears were worn beautifully evenly, but with a fair bit of outer edge wear. Usually at 38psi.
One front was probably ok for another couple of months, but the other was cactus, so I think there is a slight alignment issue there. Both had a fair bit of outer edge wear. Run fronts just over 36psi.
Tyre fitter said it looked like track wear... might need to tone down the mountain drives a bit.

Seems kind of lo-miles for such quick wear. My local dealer wants 300 bucks for an alignment - checking with local independent repair cost next. 300 bucks seems reasonable???

C2 with Bilsteins , with an alignment just before the last tyres were fitted , 1450 miles ago. It gets a full porsche dealer alignment every 12 months , (normaly about every 2500 miles!)
I think the only alignment issue is perhaps on front right (which had slightly more more than front left). Wear patterns on all the tyres looked better (more even) than normal. Fronts did have a bit of leading edge block lift from very hard braking on the last drive.
This isnt unusual for me, the last couple of sets of tyres, have lasted only marginally longer (SO2a, and SO2, and Contis).
I'm not complaining....this is just the cost of my driving choices.

suggest michelin pilot sports. i have 80000 miles on car and have owned since new. tried every mfg. when i drove extremely hard rears lasted 6000. Fronts were good for 15000. 1996 c4s. Normal more hwy can yield 15000 on rears.
also less noise from Rib n1's.

Hopefully someone who runs on track will chime in. that kind of mileage out of contis sounds ridiculous. Not sure if tracking for a couple of driver's eds would put you through those tires that quick. My buddy has Pilot Sport Cups on a hot rodded 951 - Even those last longer.....

Outer edge wear suggest very hard cornering (nice one!)

More camber might solve that problem and perhaps suit your driving style better.

I run the same same tyres and get way more mileage from them. As you say, it must be your driving style. How's the clutch?

Me thinks your alignment is botched. Even though you have even treadwear on the rears it doesnt mean the alignment is right. Last year I went through a set of rear Pilot Sport Ribs in less than 2000 miles. Dealer who did my alignment was good enough to "eat" the tires put on another set of rears with new alignment drove for perhaps 2000 miles with about 30% or so of the tread gone. Got a few new suspension bits this past winter along with some other work. Car was aligned in the process, used same tires as last year with 3 AutoX's and 3k miles since and no appreciable wear. Alignment is everything on these beasts. I remember reading Joel Reiser (PCA tech guy for 993's) say that if the alignment is a bit off you'll go through rear tires like kleenex.

+1 on alignment - I'll bet the kinematic toe is way off on the rears, either way in or way out causing your tires to drag more than roll. I'd try a different shop. Also if you are cornering that hard, I'd do some negative camber front and rear.

The only other expalination on the rears would be smokey burnouts.....

If you're willing to throw your money away on completely unnecessary alignments, then what's the problem throwing your money away on tires?

It's probably the kinematic toe. Same thing happened to me last year. Do a search or ask for a recommendation for a good alignment shop in your area.

That's about what I pay Mirage International for a Zero tolerance 4 wheel alignment with corner balance & kinematic toe alignment. I have never had a problem with tire wear since the first time I had it done.
