A new blower motor is $625 at Sonnen (there's a right and a left) http://www.sonnenporscheoemparts.com...he/96457201501.

And here's a great install thread (link courtesy of the BergvillFX website). https://rennlist.com/forums/964-foru...nt-dash-3.html

With regard to "right" vs "left"- can you tell me, how is it designated? For instance, do we call the "right" side the one on the right as we are looking at the unit standing in front of the frunk ? OR is the "right" side as we are seated in driver's seat (in the US) and therefore on the right side ( i.e. passenger's side) ? I'm in need of the passenger's side and want to order the right one. As costly as they are, I will not replace both although I'd like to. Thank you.

Right and left side as you are seated in the car. Passenger and driver references only lends further confusion as some are driven from left side, and some from the right. left: 964 572 015 01, right: 964 572 016 01 This link from Bergvill FX may be helpful. http://www.bergvillfx.com/porschehvac2 I note that Pelican carries a much cheaper non-OEM version. But you usually get what you pay for.

In Porsche parlance even part numbers are for US passenger side, odd numbers are for US driver's side. Notice 015 and 016 above. It's easy to remember that way.

BTW, y fan has been squeaking (not moaning, squeaking) at low speed only and ever since I bought this 993 6.5 years and 20L+ miles ago. I'll be damned if I spend $650 to replace a fan But I do need to get in there and look-see if I can lube it.

Here's a lower cost option, but I have no experience with this supplier. Anyone have feedback and/or experience?

These fans are expensive and not easy to replace but should be doable by anyone with average DIY experience as long as you read the available install threads.

I had to replace one fan as it already seized up, I was able to lube the other and now it's squeak free.

If you're hearing squeaks I would suggest lubing them right now before the bearings are permanently damaged. Mine had been squeaking for a long time and I never bothered lubing the bearings. Maybe if I had lubed them up I would not to replace one fan.

Lubing the bearings may not be a permanent fix but should buy you some time. Definitely not WD40, I think I used Mobil 1 or Tri-flow teflon lube.

Partsgeek is a fairly well established vendor. I think I've bought parts from them before.

I'm not near the car at the moment to go look - where do you put the oil/lube? Has anyone got a picture?

The fan motor assembly is expensive- at least $700. I've seen parts by "URO" for 150 and have been tempted but everywhere I've read stated quality is iffy at best. There is at least 1 thread here (thanks to Jeff Curtis et al) where they removed the rat/mouse/ rodent cage off of the motor and reused it on a new motor. The motors are around $200 and are OEM. My cage ( like all of ours ) is old brittle plastic and I fear cracking it while taking it off the spline. Jeff has a very ingenious way of pulling it off with a tool but I still think I'd crack it. What do you guys think ? I really hate to drop just under 1 g for this fan !

Wondering if you ever replaced your fan(s) or tried the URO parts? Need to replace both fans, they keep squeaking and I have tried lubricating them 2x and it never lasts long until the squeak returns. The price of the URO models are so much less expensive ($173 vs $919.50 for OEM on Pelican) it is tempting to try them out but thought I would see if you or anyone had any experience with the URO fans.

JO - I never did replace them. I lubricated w/ WD 40 I believe- I remember shooting a spray in while it was running and hearing the squeak go away.
That would’ve been near 3 yrs ago and I just heard the squeak start up last night. Maybe I’ll try another lubricant but not bad for plain old wd40

Out of curiosity, has anyone tried dissecting one of the motors to see if they can be rebuilt?

I have a working pair of used squeaking fans available if interested in doing a rebuild. See item #15 Here
