Default Independent Service - SF Bay Area

Can anybody refer a good independent shop in the Alameda or Contra Costa County area of the SF Bay Area? With my previous 993 I went to Denny Kahler in Dublin, but he has sold the shop and apparently retired.

I've found some older posts on this topic, but nothing recent.

Thanks!

I'd like to know as well. I need something in the east bay area. Devek is quite a drive for me.

I'm not...
Have seen some pretty bad feedback on them on the 964 forum after ownership change.
Also, I called them to see about doing a PPI on the 993tt I bought recently. The guy I was talking to started talking about removing the rear bumper cover... blah blah blah... I think he was confusing 993tt with the 996tt...
That was enough for me to run away. I was very clear on what I had including year. Multiple times. He never got it right.

I ended up going over to S-Car-Go. They did a great job on the PPI and are a pcar only shop. Kinda far from me in the east bay area but was worth it.
Can't imagine what would have happened at the "new" Kahler's.

ive been looking too, work in Vallejo and am gonna try Star Tech European. met the owner and his wife[ He has a a mom and pop operation, and i can relate as i am in solo practice] and he used to be the head wrench when there was Porsche Dealer in Vallejo. Vallejo? can you believe it, any way he seems very knowledgeable, and no aires. will see.

Thanks for the information. Went by Bauer in Oakland and it looks like a clean shop, but its a bit out of the way. Also went to see Wayne in Concord but ironically I couldn't find him. His shop was wide open but he wasn't there. Waited a while and then left. The shop looked OK, but it looks like he does mostly racing work.

Also went and talked to Tom Martenot at Deutsche Motor Sport in Concord, found his name on the PCA site. Nice guy and a real clean shop, we talked quite a bit. He knew and had just seen Denny Kahler, who has retired to Arizona. Tom looks like an option.

Also stumbled onto a reference to Tom Amon on the Pelican forum, a guy who specializes in air cooled Porsche and does his work on location (very tempting) www.mobileworkswest.com. Both he and Martenot seem to be well respected when checking on them with Google searches. Only one negative hit on Amon.

I'm not into rolling the dice with the new ownership at Kahler's unless I hear some positive things. Haven't so far.

Has anybody used German Auto Service in Alameda? I often see Porsches in the window, they're on Park Street. I'm getting ready for the 60k service

I like Chris at Bauer. No ego, straight scoop. Easy to ask questions.
