Price?

THis guy has been advertising this car for over six months. When I contacted him back in April, he wanted around $60k for it.

His photography style is incredibly frustrating. Lots of akward crops; sometimes "artistic," but never showing the detail that car buyers are looking for!

Unless he has the year wrong, he created that ad one year ago.

I just spoke to him today. His name is Jim and this is what I downloaded:

Technically, it is a 3-owner car, but effectively a 2-owner. His asking price is $59,900. The first owner traded it back to the dealership after about 2-3 weeks for an unknown reason. Jim is the 3rd owner. It is a California car, originally purchased in Beverly Hills. He bought it with about 30K miles 5 years ago and has added approx 3,500 miles since. Purely a garage queen and driven rarely. He's selling because he doesn't have the room for it anymore -- recently married and wants to start a family, yadda yadda. Similar story that ails many a Porsche owner, it seems. He doesn't want to use it as a DD given the number of miles he has to commute. According to Jim, it is in immaculate condition and mechanically needs nothing. He sounded like a nice guy on the phone. PPIs are welcome.

Not a fan of GQs.

If you don't have paint chips or squashed bugs on your mirrors you're probably not getting full enjoyment from these cars.

But to each his own.

Shows up on Craigslist every week or so. I think the market is speaking quite loudly to him, even if he refuses to listen...........

Yesir. I think "Price is firm" originally at $62. Then "price is firm" at $59.5.

Fundamentally, I agree. I don't believe you own a Porsche to let it sit in a garage. It should be driven. But if you are looking to buy one, it's nice to find a clean example. His price is too high, but whomever buys it will get a nice 993.

I'm in the market for a 993 C4S. Out of curiosity, what is the consensus on fair market value for this 993 that is advertised? Please post your thoughts.

With out looking at the car I would say that an offer to Jim for $55 ,000 should seal the deal. I am in the same boat as Jim with my C2S. I have had it for sale for a year at the asking price at $52,000. I never drive the car and just dont need it. Still I know what I paid for it, how long I looked to find it so I am going to keep it untill I get the money.
The way I see it and if you look at WillHoit Enterprises website which is where my car was purchased he gets the low mileage cars and sets the guidelines for pricing. Right now he has S cars with 6,900 miles for $76K, 10,000 miles car for 74K, and has a silver C4S with 25,000 miles for 59K.
This puts Jims car in the ball park asking price. I looked high and low for my car and bought it from Willhoit with 18,000 miles and am very happy with the deal. The extra price for low miles is nothing compared to the overall lack of wear on the car. My car looks and drives like it just rolled off the showroom

Having just purchased my C4S last year from RPM and looking around at the other guys with low mileage S cars (Willhoit, etc..) and their pricing, for a private sale, I think his $59.5k price is 5 - 10k too high.

IMHO, I think $55 is a bit too much.
Just an FYI....
I bought my C4S with 10K miles on it two years ago for less than that.

thats the kinda deal im looking for.

not to get off topic, but what do ppl think a '97 C4s with 35K miles is worth (bone stock, with motor sound package, generally in good shape, 9/10). It seems like asking prices for the 993 have skyrocketed in the last 5 months. e.g., there are a lot of 50K mile cars asking $55-$60K. seems like there are a lot of fishermen out there.

This C4S is a permanent establishment on the SFBay Craigslist.

Price is too high still.

Despite the "Firm" pricing the price has crept down from a high of $62K down to the current $59K. Still doubt that the seller would let it go for a fair price.

I've got to say, that even as an avid 993 fan, these asking prices just don't make sense. You're starting to see even low milage '01 and '02 996 turbo coupes hit the high 50s. That would be an awfully big pill to swallow, knowing that you could get a 996 turbo with 27K miles (here) or 30K miles (here) for essentially the same price.

And that's why some cars take forever to sell.
