Hi
i recently purchased a 1996 993.
seller told me that fronts were original, but rears were replaced ~ 10 months ago, ( he had sales receipt as evidence)
DOT codes as follows
Fronts = DBA 375
Rears = DBA 250
I'm interpreting that to mean;
Fronts manufactured 37th week of 1995.
Rears manufactured 25th week of 2000
Did he ,(and I ), get "ripped off" by him buying tires that had sat on the shelf for 6 1/2 years????????
or am i misinterpreting?
Bummer, cause the rears have ~ 800 miles on them and fronts = 18,000. all show nearly no wear / dry rot / cracking.
If this is true, i guess i'll be buying 4 tires, not just 2 fronts. :-(
Was the PO local or close by? Put another way, where was the tire dealer located who sold tires well beyond the "sell-by" date? Might be worth a fone call at least.
the date codes are definately as i listed in the previous post. i was asking to confirm that DBA 375 = manufactured 37th week of 1995.
I've decided to face reality and accept that truth.

Both tire shop and seller are within 50 miles of me, i'm debating whether it's worth opening this can of worms.
I would not be inclined to raise the issue with the PO but I would with the tire shop. The result should be a smokin' deal on 4 new.
+!. Your odds of a positive outcome would be greatly enhanced if the PO was the one to take it in, or at least make the initial contact with the retailer.
