CHP and LAPD are using radar and laser more than I've ever seen in my 19 years here! It's awful. I need to get a V1 and fast. I've already got one ticket. 17 l-o-n-g months of good boy behavior ahead of me...

I used them successfully last year for 90 in a 65. I swear I was only doing 89. The 90 made me ineligible for traffic school. I have averaged 1 ticket per 6 years for the last 18 years in 2 Porsches. No V1 either. I just use CC at 14 over. With a few exceptions. The passing 2 cars may complicate your case, but worth a try.

I can tell you this. Never, NEVER plead guilty or just pay the fine. Go to traffic school, if you are eligible. That way it won't go on your record. If you aren't elgible for traffic school, ALWAYS fight the ticket via a Trial By Written Declaration (TBWD). The cop has to then fill out a form to defend his ticket; if he doesn't fill it out (which may be a pain for him), you win. Even if he does fill it out, and you lose, you can ask for another trial in person (trial de novo). If he doesn't show up, even after you lost the TBWD, you win. Case in point: I currently got 3 moving violations in a row. 2 so far have been dismissed via TBWD. It helps to be witty and contrite when you write yor TBWD, by the way. Finally, you should know that anyone can go to traffic school as many times as the court will let you. You could go 10 times in a year if the court says you can, although after the first time you go to traffic school it will still go on your record as a traffic school dismissal. Also, no insurancce company by law can raise your rates if you go to traffic school, even if it's on your record, as it is considered a dismissal. Good luck!

V1...
For spirited driving, a VI is an absolute must. For the street, I drive a stealth Prius...cops don't even look at me...I do have my V1 on. I also drive a Tundra...same story.
Good luck with your case! Clearly the cops stopped the wrong guy. They should have ticketed the two cars you passed for obstruction of traffic flow!

Re tickets, Trial By Written Declaration (TBWD)
This is addressed to Goofballdeluxe. Do all states vehicle codes contain provisions for Trial By Written Declaration (TBWD)?
I am a California driver who recieved a ticket in Washington. Rather than drive the almost 1.5k miles to protest in court in Port Townsend WA., I succumbed and payed. There was no indication on the ticket that anything resembling Trial by Written Declaration was an option.
Thanks,
RB

RB, I live in California as well. I don't know if every state offers TBWD as an option, but it absolutely worth finding out. Usually a call to the clerk of the court should answer that question. If they do not offer a TBWD in Washington, perhaps you could see if you can traffic school it? Or maybe see if the court would be willing to transfer the case to a local court? Can never hurt to ask.

rbeggs,
Port Townsend is notorious for handing out tickets in areas where the roads are good but the speed limits low. They are also notorius for lax procedurs in their court system.
I would contact the lawyer I used, Kevin Cole 206 985-8356. He advertised in the local PCA magazine and I have used him once and my wife twice. All successful. Of course your milage will vary!
Good luck...fight it!
Woops...sorry, I reread and you already paid. I hope that WA doesn't have reciprocity with CA

I have a built-in K40 in the 993, front and rear and it SUCKS. And since even the term "K40" is banned from the best radar detector forum out there, I can't find out much about it. Previous owner had it installed. I've been using my Escort 8500 X50, but it got trashed when I got caught with it on my motorcycle in a torrential downpour. It's going off for repair tomorrow. For now my Solo S2 will have to do.

Damn, people sure dont like to take responsibility for their actions when they get busted for speeding. I do have 2 radar dectors in my car so thats what I call defensive driving.
Of course our Court Systems judges can sue people for $65 million because their drying cleaning experience wasnt satisifying so what the hell, fight the speeding tickets! If a judge can make mockery of the justice system, we as citizens should as well.

Fighting speeding tickets is not making money off anyone. It's keeping money the state would otherwise steal from you under the guise of keeping the roads safe, which speed enforcement does not do at all. Come to VA and witness our new $3000 speeding tickets, which you can get for going with the flow of traffic. Oh, you're a UT resident? Then the new VA laws don't apply to you even if you gt busted here. They only apply to VA residents. If you don't fight speeding tickets, what do you fight when the state comes after you? Do you waive Miranda rights too? Would you let the cops search your car just for asking? Would you let them search your house without a warrant? Sorry. I don't let the state do anything to me without a fight.

Three Wheelin'
My V1 has been great but I usually don't get too crazy with the accelerator. Mount that baby high up above the rearview, hardwire it, and throw it in the door pocket, bird armrest, or glovebox when car is unattended. Money well spent for some protection. disclaimer: but remember, like condoms, V1s are not always 100% effective!
