I took off the a/c belt to t/s a belt squeak. I thought the car ran pretty ok to begin with. But now it is breathtaking, literally - simply unbelievable. And smooth as glass. I am considering leaving the belt off - for a while anyway - I need to further assess this sudden performance upgrade
. Am I sliding...?

I don't know if it's me but I really don't understand this thread. The tittle says "Am I getting ready to slide the slippery slope", with a picture of 993's rear end but all it says is that, he removed the AC belt and likes it.
I always thought that removing the compressor didn't do much in power since it's ball bearing and unless it's engaged, the inertia it creates is close to none.
