Well I'm about 100% sure it's not ocean. My coupe is ocean blue and is much darker than this car. To me in the photos at least, it looks almost like a non-metallic turquoise. Again, hard to tell, but the iris cars I've seen appear much more purple than this car. I emailed the dealer so we'll see what he says. Then again, if he thinks those are "wire wheels" then he probably won't be much help.

Not turquoise, for that's what I have.

Interesting listing of color codes.

You have these listed for Cobalt

37U kobalt-blau-metallic 1990-1998
38U kobalt-blau-metallic 1990-1998
3C8 kobalt-blau-metallic 1990-1998
F6 kobalt-blau-metallic 1990-1998
M5N kobalt-blau-metallic 1990-1998

I know 37U/3C8 and F6 are all the same the F6 being the internal factory designation. I have never seen 38U or M5N referenced anywhere before, I am assuming this is a water base version of the 37U used on my 94 that was introduced for the 1995 models?
Anthony:
There is some color variation from year to year in the standard Porsche colors offered, sometimes the original color was not accurately duplicated. The list above although is interesting it has some flaws.
I can go deeper in each one of the 4 kobalt blau designations.
Just give me an hour or so, and I'll be back with some math calculations

Thanks I would appreciate it.

I know my Window sticker references 37U/F6F6 I also have the factory build sheet showing 3C8 but I had never seen 38U or M5N. I know I have had my car next to 996/997's in Cobalt and it looks similar in direct sunlight but does not change color the same way my car does in late afternoon or early morning sun. I believe the code is different than any of the ones you have posted here but I could be wrong.

This is a tough one. I have a Zenith Blue convertible and that was my first "guess" -- the nice thing about that color: it'll appear very light in bright sunshine and pretty dark at night...and that'll vary depending on amount and angle of light.

Can you post a couple photos of you car? I'd like to see it.

Ok. Let's try. Same color: Kobalt - but different mixtures depending on the year.

Interesting,

So I looked up the numbers on my paperwork and I see 37U F6F6 and it is M5N not the 3C8 I thought i saw so I am assuming my Car was painted with the formula in the lower left corner.

The SC8 appears to be the 997 Carrera S I had seen.

So not being a paint specialist what do these formulas tell me and what makes my car change colors that I don't see in the other new models using 3C8? Also why would they have a special cobalt for 1993-1994 and my car is not painted that color? Many questions.

Sorry to go off topic but if you have the time maybe you can pm me the info and if you happen to have the codes for Amazon Green 39A I blieve I would be interested in that too.

Trying to guess the color of one of the metallic blue cars from a photo is not a very profitable endeavor. I have photos of my iris blue cab next to Jos Stella's midnight blue cab and in most pics you can't determine which is which. The color recorded by the camera is not exact and the display screen adds even more bias. The only way to know is from the sticker near the brake fluid reservoir (since the hood sticker is missing).

I vote for midnight because of the way the light hits it

Well you are correct sir. The dealer checked the sticker and it is Ocean Blue. Pictures can be deceiving, as I own an OB coupe and it doesn't look at all like this car as it appears in the ad on my laptop. This really doesn't come as any surprise given the variables (lighting, camera, laptop screen, etc.) but I was sort of secretly hoping this car was some rarer blue I hadn't seen. Wish I had the cash at the moment because it would be cool to have a matching cab and coupe!
