I found an interesting thing. The crest on the key I had from the totalled SC is different in size than the hole in the key that came with the 993. I couldn't believe that the 993's key was crest-less. Given the overall state of the car, you'd have thought the 993's previous owner wouldn't be caught dead with a crest-less key. Very slight difference, the SC key's crest was a bit longer from top to bottom of the crest than the hole in the 993 key. Dremel and a tiny drill bit to the rescue, make the 993 crest-less key's hole a tiny bit larger at the top, Gorilla glue and I have a crested-key again. This way I have 2 parts of the SC that live on in the 993, the key crest, and a small spring I picked up from a pile of parts that the police had left by the side of the road when I went back to take photos of the scene. There was a very sad looking black trim ring from the SC's H4 headlight. It was almost harder to see that lying there on the side of the road than seeing the actual car at the bodyshop before it was totalled out.
I just ordered a couple of the gold/red/black crests from Sunset. The part number is 996-637-443-00.
$6.30 each plus postage. I took a No.11 X-acto blade and cut a few diagonal lines on the back of the crest and cut several more into the shield recess in the key handle. Mix up some 5 minute epoxy, applying sparingly to the shield, press together and let cure.
