Default Electronic fix for SAI

I know some people built an electronic gizzmo for the SAI system issue. If you have done this and you passed the smog test please email me at
djh944t@yahoo.com
I would like to discuss this fix

Thanks
David

I spoke to my friend who imports TechArt components a couple of days ago; he said he sent the computer from an afflicted car to Germany for a software upgrade in which they removed the SAI from the equation because European cars do not have it, as well as net the usual 15-25 hp, smooth out the idle by raising it a little, etc.

Very cool!

Now the questions...

How much?
How long did it take?
Who do we call?

Joe Vatter at GermanTech in Largo FL can explain it better than I can, I think. He was joking about marketing it to all the 993 guys (which I may have just inadvertantly done ... oops) but was concerned about legal ramifications.

I had my topend done already, but I'm thinking about having him rework my computer to smooth out my idle and get a little extra horsepower; I think it was about $1300 or so. TechArt's stuff is very good, he has given me some very impressive test drives over the years. He's a great guy, with close ties to the factory.

I believe the catch-all phrase is "For off-road use only".

I will not put any more on the site, but if you are interested in modifying your ECU to smooth idle and increase horses by 25 please email me. I think the turnaround will be about 7 days and cost is yet to be set.

It would be worth knowing how a CA (or other state) Smog Computer will read the OBD-II diagnostic information on a Euro ECU. Would it simply pass it as there were no readiness or SAI codes, or would that trigger a fail???

Would it possible to just swap in a Euro ECU and be done with it or are they different. I am also interested in a little extra HP.

Does this cause a problem for us Californians? Will centers be savvy enough to realize we have cars that should be OBD-II?

All U.S. cars HAD to be be OBD-II starting in '96, so yes, they'll notice.
