I have heard both, they are both great, I just like the LPMM more.

Or just put a cat bypass on your car. Much Less weight and your car will sound like it should have from the beginning.

Cut the cans open near the inlet/outlet pipes, and pull apart. Remove crap ( steel wool stuff), reassemble and weld back together.
Not much difference in sound at all...you will be disappointed. The internals need to be modified to make much difference.
I am currently running internally modified mufflers with the LPMM, and they sound pretty damn good.

So cut it open on the small surface where the inlet/outlet is, or cut on the rounded outer body?

Rounded outer body. So you end up with this.

Yes they do!
That sound makes me want to send my regular ol' 2" LPMMs in for some elective surgery

OK - does the LPMM contribute hearing the popping and backfiring that comes with rapdi acceleration associated with an instant release of the gas pedal. You can always tell whcih rice burners have deleted their resonators when they let up on the throttle: WAaaaaaaaaaaaa -uhg...poppitty-pop-pop... To a degree the steel wool crap prevents that noise and brings poise and grace to the 911 exhaust note. I want to do the LPMM, but am struggling with the poppity-pop thing. I don;t want to hear it - I hear it enough on the tin cans...wonder if somebody makes a little cherry bomb muffler that will fit in the LPMM spot? Might absorb the poppity-pop but keep the ballsy exhaust not???

Cool What about Chris @ DACH-X...he...

makes mufflers I believe. I have the RSRs, have had them for years...love them. Great sound, just loud enough, no resonance. And they pass Laguna Seca 92 dB sound check, or is it 91 dB?

I believe Chris may have been working on a "loud RSR" mod; might be worth asking him? RSRs will not crackle and pop; they sound like they want to but have just a little too much restriction for it to happen. When I put sports cats on they freed everything up very nicely and now I get the occasional pop and some decent burbling on the lift off.

Fister - do you have a short sound/video clip that we could put on my putfile site to provide a comparison?

If our weather ever dries up I'm looking to do some decent clips of my set up plus a friend's 996 with OEM sports pipes and another friend's 965 with basically no silencers or cats (guess which is the loudest!).

Cheers,

David

LPMMs do not "pop" or backfire. They do do have a slight gurggle at times, which sounds great. You are really overthinking this mod........find someone that has them and check them out in person. If you don't like them, don't do it....but that is highly unlikely.
