Default Seat bolt part number

Does anyone have the part number for the allen bolts used to secure the seats? I was unable to find this in PET.

I try to avoid those stupid factory bolts. You can pick up some good bolts online or even home depot that won't get stripped like the factory bolts. But the heads will be taller so it doesn't always work; depends on the situation.

Eric,
Yes, I've heard enough horror stories about the stock bolts. Do you know the measurements (length/thread pitch/etc.)?

It's just your basic good 'ol M8. Not sure exactly what the pitch is, sorry. Whatever the standard pitch is. Make sure the taller head won't interfere with seat travel before trying this.

You can also buy low profile screws from www.mcmaster.com. Grade 8.8 instead of the 12.9 you can get with the full sized head.

There is a seat specific section of PET that is separate from the regular 993 section.

Good catch. Just type the page no. "3053" in the search box on www.mcmaster.com.

I replaced all of my seat bolts for a couple of bucks from the nearby local www.fastenal.com dealer.

the heads are a bit higher profile but no problem fitting. and a much more secure fastener.

cheapest mod so far!!!

AOW,

Go down to good, ole Leonard Jed off of Key Highway in Baltimore City. They have all sorts of SAE-graded hardware that doesn't require buying a full box. While you're there, stop by the American Visionary Arts Museum and see all of the beautiful creations that the normal, the insane and the nearly-insane have conjured up. The 17' model of the Titanic that's made up of match sticks is a thing of wonder.

Excellent answers - thank you all.

Does anyone know the actual size of these bolts?

Me too ... I would take one out, but they are already buggered: these bolts live up to their cheese head name - for the heads are as soft as cheese.
