I have been using the Kumho MX for 2 full tire cycle changes now (that's 4 sets of rears and 2 sets of fronts) and it's time for another full set. I like the performance/wear of the MXs, (especially the price/value!!), but was wondering if any of you guys here have any new recommendations. I commute daily, but no longer drive in the rain, so good grip AND reasonable tread wear are both essential (FWIW, I get about 17-18K miles on my MX rears).
Any recommendations would be great. I could, of course, get the MXs again as I do like them, but reading up on TireRack, the BFG G-Force Sport sounds like a great tire with even longer wear. Thoughts? ...thanks!
I just bought a new set of wheels and tires and did considerable research on tires before I bought. I love PS2s but I'm looking for more performance and better price point. I went outside of what most people use on our cars and bought Falken Azenis 615s. It's hard to find info on them but I searched through various AX and racing forums and they get rave reviews. They are very close to the MXs in terms of price and performance but several reviews led me to belive that the Azenis have the upper hand on performance over the MXs.
I get my set on Thursday but I doubt I'll be able to give you an accurate review anytime soon since I'm changing wheels, tires, sways, shocks/springs and getting the car aligned.
Just one question. what the heck did you do to get 17K out of a set of MXs on the rear? Are you very gentle when you drive on the street? I just got less than 9K out of a pair out back - evenly worn, inside of tread going first.

LOL! I don't baby my 993 by any means. I commute daily, so traffic by default limits my driving "brio." I do take every corner and onramp I can with a "spirited" attitude, though, and there's where the fun is. But I don't come off the line, er stoplight, really hard. I learned from my first set, perhaps as you just did, that rears will disappear pretty quickly when accelerating hard from a stop. BTW, I just checked my records, I only got 15K miles out of this last set of rears.
Thanks for the feedback guys. Hey anyone... Any thoughts on the BFG I mentioned? I realized that it's an "Ultra High Performance Summer" as opposed to the "Max Performance" tire as per Tire rack, which explains its higher treadwear over the Kumho MX. Do they still have good stick for the street, or will I miss the MXs??
