Let it run or drive it for 10 minutes and then try the redline.

Welcome Mark -

I can't help you out with this specific poroblem, but I'l be sure to hit redline in my '95 on the way home tonight. Patially out of curiosity, and partially out of fun..

Anyway, welcome to the 'other' forum that I hang out on. You'll generally find folks in this group much more mature and helpful. Always very helpful and supportive - makes for great reading and assistance with problem. Its nice to not have to surf through the juvenile angst of bimmerforums for a helping hand.

Welcome! and good luck ironing out this gremlin. I'm sure it will be fine. Caps, plugs, and rotors are great place to start, along with an air and fuel filter.

Have you checked the distributor drive belt? Take off the second (left) distributor cap, if the rotor spins freely then the belt is broken.

One other thing, have you checked your gas pedal to see if you are getting full throttle? Either a misadjusted pedal or something got wedged.

Like mentioned above, have a look at the dizzy caps for carbon tracking and replace the fuel filter, unless you are confident it has been replace recently. Almost sounds like a fuel starvation situation since it will rev freely without load, but wont with load.

Congrats on the car, BTW! Nice looking example!!

By the way, Mark, congrats on the car and welcome to the forum. I can't quite tell from the photo, is it black or midnight blue?

It is midnight blue! Also, where did you get the Rennsport chip?

The distributor drivebelt issue affects ALL 3.6 motors; the vent kit simply extends their life span.

Based on experience, I do recommend replacement every 50-60K as thats FAR cheaper than the consequences.

Mark,
What a beautiful color - congrats!

My first thoughts would be fuel filter and possibly the distributor drive belt.

Is your engine undertray still on? That could certainly factor into the equation.

Beautiful. I love that color. Almost as nice as Aventurine Green.
I got the Rennsport chip from Steve Weiner of Rennsport Systems. He posted earlier in this thread, so you can see his contact info. The chip works like a charm, I highly recommend it. Thanks, Steve W.! The chip adds noticeable power to the midrange revs (which I suppose in your case is the high range revs for the moment!). It's an easy DIY to change the chip on a 95. Well, except for cutting the darn security bolts to get to the chip. That took me forever using a drill, dremel, and the entirety of foul vocabulary available to me.

Yup, why didn't I think of that? I just fixed this issue on my SC.
