Default CR-1 To CRC-220 Radio Swap

Yesterday, after giving up with the wiring job myself, I took my '95 911 to a local retail electronics store for the wiring job. Seems the CR-1 has totally different wiring ends and nothing plugs from one to another. When the job was finish, I found the tech had removed the amp also and made some wire connections under the passenger seat. Bottom line is, with the newly installed CDR-220, I am unable to use the fade or balance adjustments meaning they have no effect. The sound seems to be totally coming from the rear speakers and when the stereo/mono button is pushed, there is no difference in the sound. As you can guess, the final product is not stereo and not to my satisfaction. I will be returning today for a) another amp, and b) the wiring to be corrected.
Anyone recognize the symptoms and know where the installer went wrong? By the way, the CD changer that comes with the car, a CDC-1, is not compatible with the CDR-220. Have to upgrade to either a Becker 2660, 7860 or the CDC-3. This has been no easy install... Thanks.

quasr: Let me know what you'd have to pay for a compatible changer. I have one from the CR-210/CDR-220 and might beat your price. I changed out the 210 to a 220 and then wanted an iPod integration so I changed again to an Alpine X-001. Sold the 210 but still have the 220 and changer.

I feel your pain...my solution was to have Rod Birch take a crack at it and I was very happy with the result. This is not a diy for my limited abilities. do search and you'll also find a great solution to attaching an ipod directly to the -220.
