993 Winter driving in Chicago?
#17
Come on now Eric...sarcasm is OK.
I figured out what I'm going to do. I will purchase a set of winter wheels and tires. Salt, rain does not bother me. I've learned my lesson on these machines, I am buying this car as a daily driver. I would have loved to find a C4 that is close by and priced right. I didn't. I used to own a 1996 C4S that I babied, only drove the car on very nice days, I got so paranoid with that car that it sat in the garage...the sad thing is the only thing I remember about that car is how I kept it clean. This time around I'm driving it, rain, shine, snow whatever. f the weather gets really bad, I can always carpool with my wife.
I appeciate everyone's reply, I really do.

I did exactly that. Bought a 95C4 that is my daily driver. I was living in Hoffman and driving to the north end of Chicago and then Rosemont. Now I drive from NW Indiana to O'Hare. Have two sets of wheels, one with dunlop winter sports permanently mounted (work great for the dry/slush/snow mix), and one with my summer tires.
Just wash the car often.

chicago winters are pretty mild- in the way of snow. further, if there is a significant snow event, streets are highways are cleared and passable very quickly. my comments don't apply to winter in general, but winter in chicago.

Me too, I drive a 95 C2 all year long in Toronto. A good set of winter tires (Bridgestone Blizzak LM25), once a week car wash (including underbody) and you are all set. Just keep in mind that past 8" of snow on the road, you will need an alternate mean of transportation (or stay at home). But driving a C2 in the snow is a lot of fun!!!!
