Default Appraisal vs. Kelly Blue Book

I have read a few horror stories of people getting in wrecks/stolen vehicles and insurance companies going by KBB for value for claims.

Has any one got an actual appraisal on their 993's for insurance purposes?

I have a stated value policy with Chubb. We agree on the car's value. I think it's the best way to go.

Dealing with this right now and it is a nightmare. It takes forever to get quotes and is holding up my purchase but thank God the seller is patient! I am going to try to have the dealer that is PPI'ng the car appraise it for the declared value and then I have to send them pictures also. i want to be 100% covered before i pick the car up.

I did a KBB on mine on my 95 C4 comes up the following with 60,8xx miles. From a retail prospective, it doesnt seem to be too far out of wack if it was pure stock. Since 5% of all cars only fall into the "excellent" catagory, I classified mine as good. Although its in great shape.

Retail "excellent" $32,100.00, didnt give me a "good" option.
**guessing "good" would be $30kish
Trade in as a "good condition" $23,815.00
Private Party "good condition" $27,500.00

Trade in and private party, thats another story.

I'm in this fight currently. I'll let you know what happens when it's settled. Not going very quickly so far though....2 weeks and the only thing that has been done is the insurance company's appraisal. $7700 repairs. without even tearing into the car my bodyshop - without smoking any numbers - is at $14,000. So they are trying to communicate to figure it out. I sure hope it doesn't come down to me fighting the insurance company on the value of the car versus repairing it.
