Default N spec tyres

Hi,

Does anyone know the true meaning behind the 'N' spec tyres as per Porsche recomendation? and what the N stands for?
I'm told 'N' spec refers to tyres approved by Porsche re speed & load rating and suitably tuned and tested to Porsche's chassis requirements...

Ive seen tyres of the same type etc less the 'N', does it really make that much difference? or would one need to be a F1 driver to know the difference?

This topic has been covered thoroughly, and "with exuberance." I suggest you do a search on the subject, but to help you, here's a good thread

The Tire Rack web site has a TECH ARTICLE on the subject.

There are a number of tires that don't carry an "N" rating that work well. These tires simply either haven't been tested by Porsche or the manufacturer elects not to go through the time and expense of getting the rating. Do a search using a particular tire you're interested in and you may find a number of member's experiences with that tire.

I recently purchased a set of wheels and non-N tires (Yoke ES100's) were included, so I decided to give them a try. A couple of members had already tried them and found them to be good. I think they're good, too, and likely better than what I've heard about N-spec Conti Sports!

OTOH, A friend's 964 wiggled and tram-lined with the set of non-N tires he tried.
