Thanks for the nice comments guys.

Keith, only "mods" planned are upgrade to DVD-based nav, an ipod integration kit, and a radar detector (the latter being the most time critical!). Don't plan on anything performance-wise... uh, where've I heard that before?

canysmc... nice ride! We're twins. My comment on the "connected" part had to do more with the 993's rawness for sure, plus I've found that the weight and chassis of the M5 separates the driver (at least me) from the road a little more than the 993's did.

I'm having a great time with it... thanks again.

Very nice Jeff. You can't beat the E39 M5 for a family car. I went to the M driving experience a few years back & put the M5 through it's paces on the track, it's an amazing car considering the size.

Hopefully you'll be back in a Pcar someday!

Short exchange form one of my favorite south Park episodes. "Red Rocket" is already taken.

Stan: Red rocket, red rocket.
Randy: Aagghhh.
Mom: Stanley, what the hell are you doing?
Stan: I'm beating off the dog. Red rocket, red rocket.
Mom: Stanley, you go to your room. Right now.
Stan: My room, why?
Mom: Go Stanley. Stanley, do you know why you're being grounded for ten months?
Stan: No.
Randy: Beating off the dog is not appropiate when we have company, I mean ever. Beating off the dog is not appropiate, ever.
Stan: Why? What's the big deal?
Mom: Stanley, don't you understand what you were doing?
Stan: I was doing red rocket to make the dog's milk come out.

Oh man, looks like I'm going to have to talk the kids into the "Crimson Cruise Missle" or something.

Jeff,

Imola Red E39 M5 is certainly a HOT ride.

On mods. These are the 2 best bang for the $$ mods I can suggest:
Powerchip.
http://www.powerchipgroup.com/intera...sp?pid=Bmw0068
If you can reach Wayne (he is the honcho, but may be back in OZ these days), please tell him that Pong Ng sent you, they may still remember me and give you 10% off. Also M5board.com members get 10% off as well.

The second mod is an SSK. The OEM shifter has a rubber base and there is a 1/2" slop (horizontal play) when the car is in gear. The SSK makes shifting heavenly.

These are relatively cheap mods and absolutely worth it in my book.

The next one up would be suspensions, either a PSS9 system or Ground Control coil over system with camber plates. This is higher $$, but for an 01 car, it may be time to change the shocks anyways.

The M5 is one of my favorite cars. Congrats on the purchase and enjoy in great health.

Close.

Correct on the 7100i.

X on the Garmin.

If you're refferring to the case right below my 7100i, its actually the case for my Canon SD40.

Definitely the weight makes a difference, but considering the weight, its unbelievable the handling of the e39M5.

Hi Jeff that is one sweet ride you have there, I have done alot of reading about them and was thinking out that car as toy until I starting going to the different Porsche events with my dad, so I ended up buying your black '96 Porsche instead, and I am happy as a clam at hight tide.
