Default Selling my car= $27K?

I have a buyer for my car. He's a nice guy but offered me $27K for my 65K '95 C2 with lots cool parts.

I made a mistake advertizing it for $28.5K (which I thought was a fair price) thinking someone would be happy to get a good deal. I'm not good at selling cars and I'm learning fast that no one wants to pay the advertised price.
I figured I'd budge ~$500 and let someone have it for $28K even. To me that's a really good deal. I got a serious buyer today and he offered $27K. I feel really torn about this because I keep thinking I'm really taking it up the pooper here. What do you all think? To me that's closing in on like trade-in value or something.

It's hard to sell a car like this overseas because of the small market (American population in Germany).

Opinions?

If you think your list price is fair (or more than fair), stick to it - especially since you haven't had it for sale very long (assuming this). I would tell the prospective buyer your opinion in the spirit of open/honest communication.

Good Luck

The first question is what are you going to do with 27k or whatever and will it make you as happy as a nicely worked over 993? 27k is very, very reasonable bordering on cheap. I think you need to price it with some negotiating packed in - 10% or so.

I'm assuming you can only sell to an American there because of how you imported it? If possible it might be worth paying to get it out of the EU and then selling to a European for private import, as 993 prices are very high there. 27k would be way low. Shipping back to the USA might be worthwhile, too.

If you do decide to sell, the second question is can we swap transmissions before you sell since this dude clearly won't notice :-) ? I'll pay Fedex both ways :-)

In western Europe, a 95 C2 with 65 K miles (or its equivalent in kilometers) is worth 30 K Euros (about $40 K). Even at $28.5 K, the guy is getting a smokin' deal!

I know the local beer where you are, but there must be something in the water, too.

Thank him for the offer. Politely tell him that you are prepared to go down to $28K, but it is too early to go down further right now.

Ask him for his name and contact information and tell him that if it doesn't sell you would be happy to give him a call, but right now it is a little too soon to take that kind of hit.

He will respect you for your honesty and it may make him either counter, which you can politely refuse again, or if he really wants the car, pay your price.

Just treat him kindly and stick with your number, at least for now.

hey, BOTH parties need to feel satisfied with the deal.

He sure should feel good, because that is a very good price for him.
But if you feel like your taking it from behind, then you need to reconsider
this price.
If your asking price is really your best price that you can live with,
then you need to stick to that and explain that to the purchaser,
otherwise you will feel like he schooled you and nobody wants that.
If you havent had it on the market for long, then don't rush it.

I would personally have a hard time letting it go for that. You've got a great looking car with very reasonable miles. I've been looking at Rennlist postings and others for sale lately and this seems low. But if you want to move it quickly someone is certainly getting a great car for a very good deal. Sorry to hear you are parting with her. Good luck Leland.

Your car should easily fetch $29K. Tell him this price is non-negotiable and that you don't want to sell for less than what this car is worth.
Tell him about all the goodies you put in there and at what costs...
If he's the right guy, he will appreciate your gesture and how deeply you cared for your p-car!

Gosh that price is low... Didn't you put in some really cool mods to that car? Got some recent pics? There are occasional lurkers here from all over Europe.

Unless you need to dump it asap, I'd hold firm to your price of $28500 and sit tight. Why ARE you selling it? Maybe I missed that somewhere...

If you accept the 27k you are essentially bending over which is not a comfortable position.....hold firm and get what $$ you need from the car, you will be much more satisfied in the end......LOL

Leland,

Don't you have a short gearbox, too?

I think trade-in value is probably closer to $20k...But If I were you, I'd start the listing price at $31 -32k. IMHO I think $30k would be a fair price for your car
