Default weight of ac system and coolant? A/C removal?

Did many a search and couldn't find a definitive answer? Thinking about taking it out...depending on potential weight savings...

Also, is it easy to remove? How about reinstalling if I change my mind a year down the road?

thnx

Hey Greg,

I removed the A/C condensor.
The title is "PICTURES". The date was earlier this year.
Do a search.
I would attach it but I do not know how....Sorry
The condensor is a tank: 23#
Easy to remove.
I removed the lines also. They are pretty light .
With the condensor, lines, bolts and brakets, it all weighted approximately 30#
Hope this helps

Kevin

Did you mean compressor, or did you not remove the compressor?

I removed all the components in my car with the exception of the blowers in the dash area, put them in a box and weighed it all......a savings of just over 49 pounds.

Thanks for the weight info!

Next questions would be:
-what level diy is this (1-5, 5 being expert diy)?
-would it be reversible?

thanks!

After an A/C Service center pumps out the R-134a, it is '1-2' to remove the compressor and belt ..... and that is likely 80% of the potential. The two rear hoses do not weigh much .... and their left side gland nuts to the hard lines are extra fun to access - pull the foam back and take a look .... and decide.
Regardless of where one stops, the remainder of the system needs to be sealed if there is any thought of a future reinstall.

Greg-

It took some time, but certainly not that difficult. As Garth points out, the compressor (and condensor, fan in the front fender) are the "meat" of the weight savings...the lines are VERY light....but it all adds up.

And speaking of weight savings, I will have a "true to life" weight savings of deleting the sunroof in a few weeks. I got a 993 roof skin for the sunroof delete model 993 that will be replacing my sunroof-roofed car.

After all of the crap I have removed form the car, I should be right at about 2650 by the end of summer, and aside from going to fiberglass body panels I dont see where I could take any more weight out of the car.

When removing items, I have tried to keep in mind the balance...i.e. not taking too much from just one polar end of the car....which is not easy to do to a 993 IMO.
