Default OT: Anyone know what kind of radar systems CHP is using?

Saw a motorcycle chippie on the side of the 101 in the Carpenteria area and he held the radar gun up by his face to aim it. Looked like it had two reflective circular things on the end of the unit. Was this a Ladar gun (lazer/radar)?

I was hit by the CHP with a laser gun last weekend for the first time and it prompted me to look into your very question. This article was pretty informative. http://www.gilroydispatch.com/news/c...w.asp?c=207294

As far as I know its still Ka band radar. I've been seeing more use of instant on recently.

Though my Laser warning on my V1 has been going off a bit more recently.

Tim's got it right. Radar doesn't justify "up to the face" aiming (dispersion issues). It was a LIDAR (laser).

Regards to all.

I heard that the CHP just took delivery of LIDAR guns this year. A guy I know who builds jammers (illegal in CA) says that CHP bought 100? Prolaser III guns.

HAPPY SPEEDING YALL!

If this is true, we are all screwed.

There must be a summer BOGOF sale on LIDAR guns. I got hit by my house and now I see them out...testing it...a lot...

I tried talking my way out of it because I was next to another car and I was 1 MPH faster. He said IL-DOT is pushing it because of issues on the specific road.

Time for counter measures.

I stand corrected, I checked my old emails - The CHP bought 150 UltraLyte 20/20 laser guns.

If you buy a jammer, which I dont condone where its illegal, make sure the defense system is good against the guns in use. Also, I heard that dispite what you read, laser veil, has disappointing results....

Stupid question: I've been nailed twice by laser during the daytime. Does it work at night?

Briefscape,

Thanks for the link. Unfortunately, according to the owner's manual of the Escort Shifter, Laser does work at night, but is less effective in rain, fog, etc.

Depressing that we have to worry about this crap. Don't these idiots have something better to do than hiding behind trees with a laser gun. Pathetic.

Cheers

Increasing use of laser vs. radar is even more reason to get a Bearcat.
