Definately, save your pennies until you can get into a 360.

A 355 isn't even in the same league, and is a waste of money.

I am aware of the service cost and service nightmares, but figures since this is an rarely used vechicle I can keep the cost down, the insurance would not be an issue, only adds $1000/year

What do you guys think?
I went to a 355 from my 2001 TT...I prefer Porsches (duh, that's why I'm here!). Anyway, I enjoyed owning/driving the F car, but there was never a real comfort level in it like a Porsche (drive the Porsche anywhere, but you're always having to "plan" a trip in the Ferrari. Also, I felt like you, in that I was aware of the cost of service, etc., but when I had to replace two shocks at $1400 apiece, well, I was not aware of that!!!!

That's my $.02

I have to disagree with you there... maybe the 360 is a less-maintenance intensive daily driver, but in terms of classic Ferrari appeal, the 355 is hard to beat... it's the last of its kind, much like the 993 in many ways.

Exactly!!!! Now we are talking. In many ways I think the F355 is Ferrari's 993, and the 428 is the 964.

Not ditching the Porsche in any ways, I still love them greatly.... I guess after getting through the Brit's Range Rover I am up for a challenge. :P

My entire idea of getting the Ferrari is not based on if it is in any way better than a Porsche (not even close), or even from the performance point of view, but I guess 50% for the cool factor 50% the sound of the engine.

But from the replies, I guess I shouldn't make the change.....

Understand. A friend took me for a spin in his 360 a few weeks ago....no doubt it's an impressive machine, and the engine at 8k sounds glorious. At the end of our spin, I hopped in my little 993 to head home, and felt just as good.

Robin, I have driven both models on track and street. Although they look great and sound cool......they are HEAVY PIGS! I felt absolutely no connection to either like I do the 993 ('course you may have a different response to them....just my .0002 cents )
They don't move quick enough, you can certainly feel the weight. And besides the horrible seating position, the thing I hated most about them is that God awful gate shifting. My long chat with the F-club president for the Raleigh area was what really turned me off. They under sized most of the wiring for the electrical componants which is why they fail so often. The mechanicals aren't much better (from what I gathered outside of him) and just appitomize the word "exotic" when it comes to being constructed. The only plus was that they really did look a lot easier to work on for most of the major service. Plenty of room top and bottom compared to our 993's. I would wait for the 360 money to appear in your account and go for one of those.

Robin, if you would like to look at a workshop manual on the F355 to learn about the inner workings and maintenance issues, PM me, I have an e-copy I can send you. I love the F355 too, just haven't pulled the trigger on one yet.

Mate I love the 355. I think it is the 993 of Ferrari but at what price?

You want something classic, timeless, fast, fun and won't loose value.

993 TT

Otherwise wait for a 360.

I hate to sound selfish here, but if Robin gets one, by the time I can afford one he will have written the book on DIY's just like he did for us here with our 993's making it a lot easier for us to take that plunge.

I dig how the 355's look, a lot. Alvin had one (atan888), you should talk to him about the car overall.

LOL! you guys are so funny. Yes, my idea was to break the Ferrari taboo of rip off dealer service and write bunch of DIYs for the damned Italian machinery. Yes, I want to see the shop manual first whoever have them!

Afterall I thought the Rangie had the worst rap for faulty stuff, but now I got the air suspension all figured out. So FWIW, anyone in S. Cali needs help with their Rangie feel free to bring her over, now I have many spare parts..... LOL!

I guess you guys talked me out of owning a Ferrari.... My burning wallet in my pants pays many thanks to you guys

I would not do it. I had to beg the buyer of my 355 to buy my car. It took me almost 2 years to sell plus weather you use the car or not major service is needed every 3 years. approx $11000. and they are slow. I prob have one of the best 355 spider with a lot of upgrades such as capristo exhaust , hre custom wheels, brembo bbk and more. I sold my car with only 12k miles and all I could say was what a relief

but if you really want one just save your money and get the 360 or the new 430 now thats a different story. as what ferrari owners say its not how much you buy your ferrari its how long you can keep them
